βš”οΈ May 14 – The Power of the Cross: Victory Over Sin

Monthly Theme: The Cross and the Second Coming – The Victory of Love
Yearly Theme 2026: β€œSoon the King Is Coming – Hope Beyond the End”

πŸ“– Central Bible Verse of the Day

β€œHe Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness.”
β€” 1 Peter 2:24

πŸŒ… Devotional of the Day

The cross is not only a place of forgiveness, but also the place of victory. There not only was our guilt carried, but the power of sin was also broken. What held humanity captive was overcome through Christ.

We often experience sin as something that continually pulls us backward. Habits, thoughts, or patterns seem stronger than our willpower. But the gospel reveals a different reality: In Christ, we are no longer slaves to sin.

This does not mean that the struggle ends, but that it is no longer hopeless. Through the cross, we have the possibility to live differently. We are no longer forced to follow old paths.

✨ A Victory Already Won

Victory over sin is not only a future promise, but a present reality in Christ. Jesus not only showed how to live, but created the foundation that enables us to live a new life.

Ellen G. White wrote:
β€œThrough the cross, power has been given to humanity to overcome the power of sin.”
(The Desire of Ages, p. 660)

This power does not come from ourselves, but from our connection with Christ.

🌿 A New Way of Life

Victory over sin becomes visible in a transformed lifestyle. It is not only about great one-time decisions, but about many small steps in the right direction.

God does not call us to be perfect, but to remain faithful. When we fall, we are allowed to rise again and continue forward.

Ellen G. White wrote:
β€œEvery step in faith brings us closer to victory over evil.”
(Maranatha, p. 105)

πŸ•ŠοΈ Freedom in Christ

The cross gives not only forgiveness, but freedom. Freedom from guilt, but also freedom from the power that binds us.

This freedom is a gift, but also a responsibility. We are invited to live in this new reality and not lose sight of it.

πŸ™ Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
thank You for the victory that Jesus won on the cross.

Thank You that I no longer have to live under the power of sin.

Help me to live in this freedom
and to trust You daily.

Give me strength to resist temptation
and to walk in Your way.

Amen.

πŸ’ Thought for the Day

At the cross, not only was guilt forgiven, but the power of sin was also broken.

πŸ’‘ Personal Application

  1. Read Romans 6:1–14.
What does it mean to be β€œdead to sin”?
  2. Pray: β€œLord, give me strength to live in Your freedom.”
  3. Practical step: Today, consciously resist one temptation with God’s help.

🌺 Closing Verse

β€œFor sin shall not have dominion over you, because you are not under the law, but under grace.”
β€” Romans 6:14
