🌱 GROWING IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

📖 Lesson 4: The Role of the Bible

📘 4.3 Bible Truth

Truth has a firm origin

📖 1. Introduction – A fundamental question

Does truth still exist?

In today’s society, this question is being asked more and more often. Many claim that truth is relative — that everyone has their own truth. But if everything is relative, there is no fixed standard anymore.

This is exactly where the Bible presents a clear contrast.

📜 2. The biblical foundation – Truth has a source

Jesus says in John 14:6: “I am the truth.” With this, He makes it clear that truth is not just a concept, but is anchored in a person.

John 17:17 shows that God’s Word is truth.
Proverbs 30:5–6 emphasizes that every word of God is pure and reliable.
Psalm 12:7 makes clear that God’s words are enduring.

👉 The Bible presents truth as something firm, pure, and unchanging.

🌍 3. Connection to today’s world

Today’s culture often questions truth. Feelings, opinions, and personal experiences become the standard.

The problem is that without a fixed standard, people lose their sense of direction.

If everyone defines their own truth, uncertainty arises. Decisions are then based not on something stable, but on changing impressions.

The Bible offers a clear foundation in contrast to this way of thinking.

💡 4. Central message of the lesson

The central message is:

👉 Truth is not relative — it comes from God.

Our understanding may grow, but truth itself does not change. It is stable, reliable, and independent of human opinions.

✝️ 5. Theological focus

At the center of this lesson is the question of the nature of truth.

The Bible shows that truth is not defined by humans, but originates from God. It is objective, meaning independent of feelings, opinions, or cultural developments.

The fact that Jesus says “I am the truth” is theologically decisive. Truth is not just a statement or a principle, but a revelation of God Himself. This means that truth is always connected to His character.

Another important point is the immutability of God. Hebrews 13:8 makes it clear that Jesus is the same — yesterday, today, and forever. From this it follows that the truth that comes from Him also remains constant.

At the same time, human understanding grows. The Bible does not contradict itself, but unfolds truth step by step. New insights build on what has already been revealed.

This shows an important principle: growth in understanding does not mean a change in truth.

A key theological aspect is also the role of the Bible as the standard. It is not one source among many, but the foundational source. Everything else — experiences, opinions, even human reasoning — must be tested against it.

The claim that there is no truth is self-contradictory, because it itself claims to express a truth. This shows that humans cannot think without truth.

👉 Truth is unavoidable — the only question is where it comes from.

📖 6. Explanation of Bible texts

John 17:17 directly connects truth with God’s Word. Here, truth is not relative or subjective, but defined by God.

Proverbs 30:5–6 emphasizes the purity and reliability of God’s words. They are tested and trustworthy. At the same time, there is a warning not to add anything to them — indicating that humans should not alter the truth.

Psalm 12:7 highlights the permanence of God’s words. While human statements are temporary and often unreliable, God’s words endure.

  1. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 describes that the Word of God is not only heard, but also believed and accepted. It works actively in believers.

Psalm 33:4–5 shows that God’s Word is right and based on faithfulness. Here, truth is closely connected to God’s character.

Ephesians 1:13 connects truth with the gospel. The word of truth leads to salvation and brings people into a relationship with God.

👉 In summary:
God’s Word is the source, the standard, and the guarantee of truth.

🔧 7. Application in daily life

This lesson challenges us to examine our own standard.

What do I truly base my life on?

Practically, this means:

  • evaluating decisions according to the Bible
  • not relying only on feelings
  • studying God’s Word intentionally
  • being open to correction

8. Reflection question

Am I building my life on God’s truth — or on changing opinions and feelings?

🌟 9. Final thought

In a world full of uncertainty, God’s truth remains firm.

It does not change —
but it changes us.
