πŸ‘‘ The King Is Coming Soon – Hope Beyond the End

πŸ”„ May 4 – Substitution: He bore what belonged to us

Monthly theme: The Cross and the Second Coming – The Victory of Love
Year theme 2026: β€œSoon the King is coming – hope beyond the end”

πŸ“– Central Bible text of the day

β€œSurely he has borne our sickness and carried our pains… the punishment was laid on him so that we might have peace.”
β€” Isaiah 53:4–5

πŸŒ… Devotional of the day

The cross reveals a truth that is both simple and profound:
Jesus took our place. He bore what actually belonged to us and gave us what we could never have earned.

The prophet Isaiah already described this event long before Golgotha. He speaks of one who carries our guilt, takes our pain upon himself, and suffers for our transgressions. This image shows that the cross was not an accident, but part of a divine plan.

Substitution means that Christ did not only die for us, but in our place. He stepped in where we should have stood. He took upon himself the consequences of sin so that we can be restored to fellowship with God.

✨ The exchange at the cross

At the cross, a divine exchange takes place:
Our guilt is placed on Christ, and his righteousness is offered to us.

This is the heart of the gospel.

Ellen G. White wrote:
β€œChrist was treated as we deserve, so that we may be treated as He deserves.”
(The Desire of Ages, p. 25)

This truth surpasses all human understanding. It shows how far God’s love goes.

🌿 Guilt is carried, not ignored

In our world, guilt is often suppressed or minimized. But God takes guilt seriously – and precisely for that reason, He takes it upon Himself.

At the cross, nothing is softened. The reality of sin becomes visible, but so does the greatness of grace.

Ellen G. White wrote:
β€œAt the cross the seriousness of sin was revealed, and at the same time the power of redemption was made visible.”
(The Great Controversy, p. 652)

πŸ•ŠοΈ Peace through substitution

Isaiah says: β€œThe punishment was laid on him so that we might have peace.” This peace is not superficial, but deep and sustaining. It does not arise from circumstances, but from a restored relationship with God.

We do not have to carry our guilt ourselves. We can lay it down – with the One who has already carried it.

πŸ™ Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
thank you that Jesus took my place.

Thank you that I do not have to carry
what separates me from you.

Help me to accept this truth
and to live from your forgiveness.

Give me peace in my heart
and trust in your grace.

Amen.

πŸ’ Thought for the day

At the cross, Christ took our place so that we may receive His peace.

πŸ’‘ Personal application

  1. Read Isaiah 53:1–6.
What does it mean for you that Christ suffered in your place?
  2. Pray: β€œLord, I place my guilt into your hands.”
  3. Practical: Remind yourself today that you do not have to live by your own effort, but by grace.

🌺 Closing verse

β€œGod made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
β€” 2 Corinthians 5:21
