π΅ Introduction
With chapter 12, Samuelβs service as judge reaches a solemn high point. Israel now has a king, and Samuel deliberately steps back. But before he lays down his office, he addresses the whole people one more time. It is not a bitter farewell, but a serious, loving, and spiritually clear summary of Godβs history with Israelβand a call to faithfulness in a new era.

π‘ Commentary
Samuel stands before all Israel. He reminds the people that he listened to their voice and installed a king for them. Now the king goes before themβyoung, visible, human. Samuel, however, has grown old. His life lies open before the people.
He submits himself to a public examination. Without defending himself, without justifying himself, he asks: Have I cheated anyone? Have I done wrong? Have I taken gifts? The people answer unanimously: No. Samuelβs life has been clean, his service incorruptible. God himself is called as witness.
Then Samuel begins to retell Israelβs storyβnot as a chronicler, but as a prophet. He reminds them of Moses and Aaron, of the deliverance from Egypt, of Godβs repeated rescue in times of need. Again and again Israel had forgotten God. Again and again God still heard them when they cried out to him.
Judges like Gideon, Jephthah, and Samuel himself were not heroes by their own strengthβthey were instruments in Godβs hand. And yet, when the threat from the Ammonites came, Israel no longer wanted an invisible God. They wanted a visible king.
Samuel names it plainly: You have rejected Godβeven though he was your King. Still, God granted their request. Saul now stands before them.
Then a sign follows. In the middle of the wheat harvestβa time when rain is unusual and dangerous for the cropβSamuel calls on the Lord. Thunder and rain break in. The people are terrified. They realize: God himself confirms Samuelβs words.
Fear grips them. They ask Samuel to pray for them. They confess: We have sinned. And here Samuelβs heart is revealed. He does not push them away. He speaks comfort: Do not be afraid. Do not turn away from the Lord. Serve him with all your heart.
Samuel promises to keep praying for the people and to keep teaching them. His office as judge endsβbut his ministry as an intercessor remains. The chapter ends with a serious warning: obedience brings life. Faithfulness preserves. Turning away leads to ruinβfor people and king alike.

βBlessing through trust β warning through lackβ
Why God blesses cheerful givers
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π΅ Introduction
God linked obedience with promiseβand indifference with loss. The history of Israel vividly shows how closely giving and blessing are connected.

π‘ Commentary
The contributions of Israel amounted to almost a quarter of their income. From a human perspective, this should have led to poverty. But God promised the opposite: protection of the harvest, fruitfulness of the land, and respect among the nations.
Later, when the people neglected the rebuilding of the temple after the Babylonian exile, the other side became evident. They built their own houses while Godβs house lay in ruins. Drought, scarcity, and disappointment followed. Only when they put Godβs work first again did the promise come: βFrom this day on I will bless you.β
This principle remains in the New Testament as well. Paul reminds us that generous sowing leads to a rich harvest. God loves a cheerful giverβnot one who gives under compulsion.
The Lord could have sent angels to accomplish his work. But out of love, he calls people to be coworkers of his grace. Our gifts are part of his plan to carry light and truth into the world.
