👑 The King Is Coming Soon – Hope Beyond the End
🕯️ April 14 – The wise virgins: oil in the heart
Monthly theme: The signs of the times – Watch and pray
Year theme 2026: “Soon the King is coming – Hope beyond the end”
📖 Central Bible text of the day
“But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.”
— Matthew 25:4
🌅 Devotional of the day
The parable of the ten virgins is one of Jesus’ most striking images about the end times.
All are waiting.
All have lamps.
All fall asleep.
And yet, there is one decisive difference:
Five have oil — five do not.
The oil represents a living connection with God,
the Holy Spirit in the heart.
✨ The outward is not enough
The foolish virgins had lamps —
they had an outward profession.
But they lacked the inner reality.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven.”
— Matthew 7:21
Ellen G. White wrote:
“Lamps without oil are a symbol of an outward Christianity without the power of the Holy Spirit.”
(Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 411)
🌿 Oil cannot be borrowed
When the cry is heard, it is too late
to obtain oil.
The foolish ask the wise:
“Give us some of your oil!”
But the answer is clear:
It is not possible.
Faith is personal.
A relationship with God cannot be transferred.
🕊️ Preparation happens in secret
The wise virgins were prepared
long before the bridegroom came.
Their preparation was not visible,
but it was decisive.
Ellen G. White wrote:
“Preparation for the second coming of Christ happens in the hidden place of the heart.”
(Maranatha, p. 227)
🌄 The midnight cry
“Behold, the bridegroom is coming! Go out to meet him!”
— Matthew 25:6
This cry will be heard one day.
Then it will not matter what we have planned,
but what is in our hearts.
The question is not:
Do I have a lamp?
But:
Is there oil?
🙏 Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
examine my heart and show me whether my relationship with You is alive.
Fill me with Your Holy Spirit
and renew my inner life.
Help me not to rely on outward things,
but on a true connection with You.
Prepare me for the day
when You come.
Amen.
