🙏 2 Chronicles Chapter 6 – Solomon’s Prayer
🗣️ When a king speaks with God
🌅 Introduction
The temple is finished, and something incredible has happened: God’s presence has filled it. Everyone saw it and felt it. It is a moment no one will forget.
But now something just as important happens. Solomon steps before the people and begins to pray. He does not speak quietly to himself, but aloud so that everyone can hear him. It is a special prayer that shows what is truly in his heart.
📖 The Biblical Story
👑 Solomon stands before the people
Solomon stands before the entire assembly of Israel. The people are around him, and everyone looks at him. Then he lifts his hands toward heaven. It is a sign that he is turning completely to God.
He begins to speak—not to the people, but to God. And yet, everyone listens.
🙏 A prayer full of gratitude
Solomon begins his prayer by thanking God. He remembers that God made a promise to his father David—and that this promise has now been fulfilled. The temple stands, and Solomon has become king.
He makes it clear: none of this just happened. God made it possible.
🌍 God is greater than everything
Then Solomon says something very important. He knows that God does not simply live in a building. Even heaven is too small to fully contain Him.
And yet, he asks God to look upon this temple. He asks that God would hear the prayers spoken in this place.
🧎♂️ Requests for many situations
Solomon does not think only about one moment. He thinks about many different situations in people’s lives.
He asks God to listen when people pray—whether they are sad, have made mistakes, or need help. If someone has done wrong and asks for forgiveness, God should hear and forgive.
If the people face trouble, if there is no rain, or if enemies come, then the people should be able to pray to God—and God should help them.
Solomon even thinks of people who do not belong to the people of Israel. If they hear about God and come to pray, he asks: “God, hear them also.”
💔 When people make mistakes
Solomon knows that people are not perfect. He openly speaks about the fact that they will make mistakes. Perhaps they will make wrong decisions or turn away from God.
But even then, he does not lose hope. He asks God to forgive people when they turn back and return to Him.
This prayer shows: there is always a way back to God.
🌅 A prayer for the future
Solomon’s prayer does not end with words only for the present moment. It is a prayer for the future—for all the people who will come later, for all the situations that will still arise.
He trusts that God hears, sees, and acts.
And all the people stand there, listening.
