Where Godโs miracles grow big โ for little and big children
๐ป 2 Kings Chapter 4 โ God Helps in Secret
๐ When miracles happen in everyday life
๐ Introduction
Not every miracle happens in front of a huge crowd.
Not every miracle happens on a battlefield.
Some miracles happen in small homes.
In kitchens.
In quiet rooms.
Right where people cry, hope, and pray.
Chapter 4 shows us:
God doesnโt only care about kings.
He also sees widows, mothers, and hungry people.
๐ The Bible story
๐ The Widow and the Oil
One day, a woman came to Elisha.
She was desperate.
โMy husband has died,โ she said, crying.
โHe was a prophet of the Lord.
But now I have debts.
And the creditor wants to take my two sons as slaves!โ
Elisha asked her calmly:
โWhat do you have in the house?โ
The woman lowered her eyes.
โNothing โ only a small jar of oil.โ
Only a small jar.
Not much.
Almost nothing.
But God can make something great out of โalmost nothing.โ
Elisha said:
โGo to your neighbors and borrow many empty jars.
Not just a few!
Then go into your house, shut the door,
and pour your oil into all the jars.โ
That sounded strange.
Her oil was barely enough for one little jar!
But she did what Elisha said.
She borrowed many jars.
Her sons brought one after another.
And she began to pour.
The oil flowed.
One jar filled up.
Another one.
Another one.
โBring me another jar!โ she cried.
But the sons said:
โThere isnโt one left.โ
At that moment, the oil stopped flowing.
The woman ran to Elisha.
He said:
โSell the oil.
Pay your debts.
And you and your sons can live on what is left.โ
God had provided.
๐ The Hospitable Woman
In a town called Shunem lived a wealthy woman.
She noticed that Elisha often passed by.
โThis man is a holy man of God,โ she said to her husband.
โLetโs build a small room for him โ with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp.โ
So Elisha had a place to rest.
One day Elisha wanted to do something good for her.
โWhat can I do for you?โ he asked.
But she answered:
โI have everything I need.โ
Gehazi, Elishaโs servant, said quietly:
โShe has no son. And her husband is old.โ
So Elisha called her.
He said:
โAbout this time next year you will hold a son in your arms.โ
The woman was shocked.
โPlease donโt give me false hope!โ
But Godโs word came true.
One year later, she was holding a little boy in her arms.
๐ข A Heavy Blow
The boy grew up.
One day he ran out to his father in the field.
Suddenly he cried out:
โMy head! My head!โ
They brought him to his mother.
She held him in her lap.
But around noon, he died.
What pain.
But the woman did something amazing.
She laid the boy in the prophetโs room.
Then she immediately set out to find Elisha.
When she reached him, she fell at his feet.
โDid I ever ask for a son?โ she asked through tears.
Elisha understood.
๐ God Gives New Life
Elisha went back with her.
He prayed to the Lord.
Then he lay down on the child.
Slowly the boyโs body became warm.
Elisha prayed again.
And again he lay down over him.
Then the boy sneezed seven times โ
and opened his eyes!
Elisha called the mother.
โPick up your son.โ
She fell at his feet โ
but this time with gratitude.
God had given life.
๐ฒ Poison in the Pot
Later there was a famine in the land.
The prophets cooked a stew.
But someone had gathered wild fruit โ
and it was poisonous.
As soon as they ate, they cried:
โDeath is in the pot!โ
Elisha had flour brought
and threw it into the pot.
After that, the food was safe.
God protected them.
๐ Bread for Many
A man brought Elisha twenty loaves of bread.
But there were a hundred men there.
โHow can I hand this out?โ his servant asked.
Elisha said:
โGive it to the people.
For this is what the Lord says:
They will eat โ and have some left over.โ
And thatโs exactly what happened.
Everyone ate.
And there was still some left.
