When Obedience Becomes Selective

📍 Introduction

In 2 Chronicles chapter 25, Amaziah stands at the center of the story. His life reveals a special tension: he does some things right — but not with his whole heart. And that is exactly where the danger lies.

⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯◆⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯

🧵 Commentary

Amaziah begins his reign with a certain measure of justice. He acts rightly in some areas and keeps certain commandments. It appears solid — but not deep.

A decisive moment comes when he prepares for war. He gathers a large army and also seeks support from the northern kingdom.

But a prophet appears and speaks clearly:
God is not with them.

Amaziah faces a choice. He has already invested, paid money, and made plans. Everything points toward continuing on the chosen path.

But this time he listens.

He dismisses the foreign troops despite the loss. It is a moment of genuine obedience.

And God grants him victory.

But the victory changes something.

Instead of remaining thankful, Amaziah begins to drift away from God. He even adopts the gods of the defeated enemies. A paradoxical picture: victory through God — and afterward turning away from Him.

A prophet warns him. But this time Amaziah reacts differently: he does not listen.

A gradual change becomes visible. The man who had just obeyed becomes proud and unreceptive.

In the end, this path leads to an unnecessary confrontation. Amaziah challenges a battle that he loses. Jerusalem is weakened, and the kingdom is shaken.

His life does not end abruptly, but without stability. A path that was never fully clear ends accordingly.

🧺 Summary

2 Chronicles 25 describes Amaziah’s partial faithfulness, his obedience in battle, but also his later pride and turning away from God, which ultimately leads to defeat.

📘 Blog 4: 👑 When People Seek Honor

⚡ The Danger of Self-Glorification

📍 Introduction

Solomon’s greatest danger was not only wealth — but to whom the honor was being given.

⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯

🧵 Commentary

At the beginning, Solomon clearly knew that the temple belonged to God. Everything had been built for His name. When the Queen of Sheba came, Solomon still openly spoke about God’s wisdom and greatness.

But praise changes people. More and more admiration was directed toward the king himself. People spoke about “Solomon’s temple” instead of the temple of the Lord.

Slowly, Solomon began to accept this honor. The wisdom that had once made him humble now became a source of pride.

This is often how spiritual decline happens — not through open rebellion, but through gradual self-glorification.

⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯

🧺 Summary

Solomon began to accept the honor that actually belonged to God.
