๐Ÿ‘‘ 2 Samuel 11 โ€“ The fall of a king

โœจ How one glance became a chain of guilt and death

๐ŸŒ Read online here

๐Ÿ“ Introduction

Chapter 11 is one of the most shocking chapters in the Bible. The man after Godโ€™s own heart falls deeply. Not because of a great outward enemyโ€”but because of an unguarded heart. This story shows how sin begins, how it growsโ€”and how it destroys.

๐Ÿงต Commentary

It is the time of year when kings go out to war. But David stays in Jerusalem. While his men are fighting, he rests. Out of this comfort begins the path into catastrophe.

In the evening David gets up and walks on the roof of his house. From there he sees a woman bathing. She is very beautiful. David looksโ€”and does not turn away. He asks about her. He is told who she is: Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah, a loyal soldier. David knows she is married. But he does not stop.

He has her brought to him. He takes her. And when she becomes pregnant, David tries to cover up what he has done. He has Uriah brought home from the war. If Uriah goes home and is with his wife, the child can be credited to him. But Uriah is a man of honor. While the ark of God and Israelโ€™s army are in the field, he will not lie in his own bed. He sleeps at the palace entrance.

David tries again. He gets him drunk. But even drunk, Uriah remains faithful. Davidโ€™s plan fails.

Now Davidโ€™s sin turns deadly. He writes a letter to Joabโ€”a command to murderโ€”and he puts it into Uriahโ€™s own hands. Joab is to place him at the most dangerous point of the battle and then leave him there alone. Uriah is killed.

Bathsheba mourns. After that David takes her as his wife. On the outside everything seems settled. The guilt is hidden. The king has protected himself.

But the last sentence of the chapter strikes like a verdict:
โ€œBut the thing David had done displeased the Lord.โ€

God has seen everything. People may deceiveโ€”God does not.

๐Ÿงบ Summary

David commits adultery, then deception, then murder. From one unguarded look comes a chain of sin that brings death. God does not stay silentโ€”even if David still does.

๐Ÿ”ฆ Message for Us Today

Sin rarely starts bigโ€”it starts with a small, disobedient step. If we donโ€™t stop, we will keep going. But God sees what is hidden. And yet His grace remains greater than even our deepest abysses.

๐Ÿ“ Reflection

Where have I perhaps allowed a โ€œsmall glanceโ€ that is pulling me inwardly away from God?
What am I maybe trying to hide instead of bringing it to God?
Am I ready to be honest before Godโ€”before my guilt grows bigger?

๐Ÿ“˜ Blog 2 – The Schools of the Prophets โ€“ places of divine education

How God used education to preserve an entire people

๐Ÿ“ Introduction

As moral decay and idolatry spread, Samuel founded the schools of the prophetsโ€”safe places for spiritual seekers and future leaders.

๐Ÿงต Commentary

Samuel recognized: to give Israel a future, he had to educate the youth. So schools of the prophets were established, where young men with gifts, seriousness, and diligence were trainedโ€”spiritually, morally, and practically. There they learned Godโ€™s Word, how to pray, how to work, how to make music, and how to recognize Godโ€™s will. The teachers were not merely lecturers, but men of Godโ€”full of the Spirit, wisdom, and a living example.

๐Ÿงบ Summary

The schools of the prophets were places of deep, holistic educationโ€”God-fearing, practical, and life-shaping.

๐Ÿ”ฆ Message for Us Today

We need places of education that do not only pass on knowledge, but shape character and make God great.

What would happen if our schools took the schools of the prophets as their model?
