📜 Bible Text – Revelation 20 (KJV)

¹ And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

² And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

³ And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

⁴ And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

⁵ But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

⁶ Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

⁷ And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

⁸ And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

⁹ And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

¹⁰ And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

¹² And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

¹³ And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

¹⁴ And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

¹⁵ And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

🔵 Introduction

Revelation 20 reveals the ultimate fate of Satan, sinners, and believers. After the defeat of the beast and the false prophet in chapter 19, Satan is bound so that Christ’s millennial kingdom can be established. At the close of the thousand years, the final judgment prepares the way for the new creation.

🟡 Commentary

🔹 1. Satan Bound and the Millennium (vv. 1–6)

• An angel binds Satan in the Abyss for a thousand years, halting deception.

• Martyrs and faithful believers reign with Christ—this “first resurrection” grants them eternal life and kingly authority.

🔹 2. Satan’s Final Revolt and Defeat (vv. 7–10)

• Released after the millennium, Satan gathers Gog and Magog for one last assault.

• God’s immediate intervention by fire destroys them.

• Satan is cast into the lake of fire, joining the beast and false prophet—tormented forever.

🔹 3. The Great White Throne Judgment (vv. 11–15)

• All the dead stand before God’s great white throne; books are opened, including the book of life.

• Each is judged by deeds recorded in the books.

• Death and Hades are themselves thrown into the lake of fire—this “second death” has no more power.

• Any whose name is not in the book of life is cast into the lake of fire.

🟢 Summary

Revelation 20 depicts God’s final overthrow of evil: Satan is bound, the righteous reign with Christ, and then every soul faces judgment. The blessed share in the first resurrection and are spared the second death. God’s justice prevails completely, making way for eternal life.

👉 From Revelation 20 we learn:

• God’s Justice Will Triumph: All evil will be judged; no injustice remains unaddressed.

• Faithfulness Is Rewarded: Those who remain true to Christ share in His reign and eternal life.

• Names in the Book of Life Matter: Our ultimate destiny hinges on being recorded there.

• Satan Is Already Defeated: Despite his temporary release, his doom is certain.

📖 “Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection!” (Rev. 20:6)

🌿 Trust in Jesus Christ—our victorious King—who secures our place in eternity.
💬 He invites you now to stand firm in faith and live under His reign.

🔵 Introduction

In the Christian life there is a deep, lasting joy—regardless of external circumstances. This chapter shows how, despite trials and struggles, we can live a fulfilled and joyful faith. True joy is not rooted in the pleasures of this world, but in ongoing fellowship with God, in trusting His love, and in looking forward to the glorious future He has prepared for us.

🟡 Commentary

🔹 1. Our Calling: Bearers of Light and Letters of Christ (Sections 1–3)
Christians are God’s representatives, through whom the world should recognize His love.
Our lives should reflect Christ’s character: love, mercy, and joy.

🔹 2. Dangers of Distrust and Complaint (Sections 4–8)
Satan rejoices when doubt and grumbling cloud our faith.
Rather than focusing on the “thorns” and disappointments, we should pick the “roses” along our path—being consciously aware of God’s blessings.
Sadness and complaint discourage others and do not honor God.

🔹 3. Gratitude Instead of Doubt (Sections 9–14)
When we doubt God’s love, we wound Him—like children who question their parents’ affection.
Every expression of doubt strengthens Satan’s influence; every expression of faith strengthens us and others.

🔹 4. Christian Joy in Service (Sections 15–18)
Jesus was a man of sorrows, yet He always bore peace and joy within Him.
True believers are serious but not sullen; their joy is founded on trust in God’s love.

🔹 5. God’s Care and Our Trust (Sections 19–24)
Jesus teaches us to trust God’s provision, as birds and lilies do.
Worry and anxiety darken our lives and reveal a lack of faith.

🔹 6. Courage in Trials and Keeping Our Eyes on the Goal (Sections 25–28)
Even when trials come, we may be courageous—God has helped us so far and will continue to do so.
Strength for each trial is given in proportion to the need.

🔹 7. The Glorious Inheritance of the Redeemed (Sections 29–32)
In the end we await joy, purity, and fellowship with God and the redeemed.
Already, we may live in faith of this future and taste heaven’s joy now.

This chapter teaches that:

• Christian joy is deep, steadfast, and independent of outward circumstances.

• Distrust and complaining harm ourselves and others.

• Gratitude, trust, and a focus on God’s goodness strengthen our faith.

• The hope of eternal life sustains us through every difficulty.

• Learn to see God’s blessings daily and be thankful for His love.

• Don’t be paralyzed by worry and fear—trust in God’s care.

• Remember: The path of duty is the path of peace and true joy.
