🟦 Introduction
This lesson highlights the central message of the book of Joshua: God keeps what He promises — completely and reliably. The fulfillment of His promises to Israel is a visible sign of His covenant faithfulness. But this faithfulness also calls for a response: obedience, love, and a conscious commitment to God. Joshua’s urgent warnings show that the greatest battle is not external, but spiritual — a battle of loyalty to God. God’s anger is not arbitrary, but an expression of His holiness in the face of sin. Those who cling to God in love will continue to experience His blessing in the future.

🗺️ LESSONS OF FAITH FROM JOSHUA
⛪ Lesson 12 : God Is Faithful!
📘 12.1 All Came to Pass
✨ God’s promises are not vague – they are completely fulfilled
🟦 Introduction
Is there still anything today that we can truly rely on? In a world where contracts are broken, promises forgotten, and trust disappointed, God’s faithfulness is like an anchor in a stormy sea. The history of Israel, especially in the book of Joshua, bears witness to one truth: God stands by His word. This reliability concerns not only the past, but also our present and our future in Christ. This lesson invites us to understand God’s faithfulness more deeply and to embrace it personally.

🔎 The Theological Climax of the Book of Joshua (Joshua 21:43–45)
Joshua 21:43–45 is not merely a historical summary, but a theological climax. Three central actions of God stand out:
1️⃣ God gives the land
“So the Lord gave Israel all the land …”
The possession of the promised land was the core element of the covenant promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Here we see the fulfillment of that promise in a concrete act of God.
2️⃣ God gives rest
“And the Lord gave them rest all around …”
This “rest” is more than military peace — it is a theological state of arrival, security within God’s covenant (see Hebrews 4).
3️⃣ God fulfills His word completely
“Not one word failed … all came to pass.”
The Hebrew word kol (“all”) is used six times in three verses — a rhetorical device emphasizing the totality and reliability of God’s actions. God’s word is effective and never returns empty (see Isaiah 55:11).
🏛️ The Structure of the Book of Joshua in Brief
• Chapters 1–12: The conquest of the land — military victories under God’s guidance
• Chapters 13–21: The distribution of the land — precise obedience to divine instructions
• Joshua 21:43–45: Summary and theological interpretation — everything came from God, not from Israel’s merit
🧱 God’s Covenant Faithfulness: A Foundation for Salvation
God’s faithfulness in the Old Testament is the foundation of the gospel in the New Testament. Ephesians 2:8–9 reminds us that our salvation does not come from works, but is a gift from God. The parallel is clear: just as Israel received the land by grace, we too receive eternal life by grace — as the fulfillment of God’s promise.
🔗 God Remains Faithful — Even When We Are Not (2 Timothy 2:11–13)
This passage is understood as a “faithful saying,” possibly an early Christian hymn.
• “If we died with Him …” — a reference to baptism and unity with Christ
• “If we deny Him …” — a serious warning
• “If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful” — a profound word of grace
God’s faithfulness does not depend on our performance, but on His character.

🗣️ Answers to the Questions
❓ Question 1: What picture of God do Joshua 21:43–45 paint? How do these words also apply to our salvation (2 Timothy 2:11–13)?
Answer:
Joshua 21:43–45 describes God as the One who completely fulfills His promises. He has:
• given the entire land
• granted rest
• subdued all enemies
• kept every single one of His good words
These verses show that God’s covenant is not based on hope, but on fulfilled reality. The repeated use of the word “all” emphasizes that nothing was forgotten — God is not a man who breaks His word.
In the New Testament, Paul continues this thought. In 2 Timothy 2:11–13 we see:
• our unity with Christ (dying with Him, suffering with Him, reigning with Him)
• a reminder of our responsibility (denial has consequences)
• and finally: even when we fail, God remains faithful to His nature
Just as Israel received the land — not through its own strength, but because God promised it — we also receive salvation not through works, but through His faithfulness and grace.
❓ Question 2: How does God’s faithfulness give us confidence that none of His future promises will remain unfulfilled? (1 Corinthians 10:13; 2 Corinthians 1:18–20)
Answer:
God’s faithfulness is not an abstract idea, but is experienced concretely in everyday life and in His promises for the future.
• In 1 Corinthians 10:13, we are assured that God does not leave us alone in temptation. Every trial is limited by His care, and He provides a way out.
• In 2 Corinthians 1:18–20, we read that all of God’s promises find their “Yes” in Jesus. God does not say “Yes” today and “No” tomorrow. In Christ, we have the guarantee that everything God promises will be fulfilled.
God’s faithfulness strengthens our confidence that:
• no biblical promise is empty
• none of our prayers are ignored
• no suffering is meaningless
• and no future is uncertain when we are in Christ

✨ Spiritual Principles
• God promises nothing that He does not also keep
• Our salvation is part of His eternal plan — not the result of our effort
• God’s faithfulness is stronger than our doubts
• Faith is rooted in God’s character, not in our feelings

🛠️ Application in Daily Life
• When you feel uncertain, remember: God has given “everything” — not “a little”
• When you are in a crisis, remember: He gives you rest
• When you have failed, remember: His faithfulness remains
• When you are waiting for an answer to prayer, remember: “Not one word failed”

“Under the Eucalyptus Tree”
A story about loss, promises, and God’s unshakable faithfulness
📍 Setting:
The outback of Western Australia, present day (2024–2027)
A small town near Kalgoorlie, a remote Adventist community, and the vast, silent land surrounding it.
📖 Chapter 1 – The Land of Red Earth
Elijah Fraser, a 34-year-old aircraft mechanic, lives with his wife Abigail and their daughter Hannah on a small property near Kalgoorlie. Elijah is a simple, deeply faithful man who often preaches in the small Adventist congregation. He loves the Bible, nature — and his God.
But life in the outback is harsh. In 2024, the mine where he works lays off hundreds of employees. Abigail is diagnosed with aggressive cancer. Elijah begins to struggle — with God, with fate, and with himself.
“Lord, You said You are faithful. But where are You now?” he whispers one night under the old eucalyptus tree behind the house.

📖 Chapter 2 – The Promise Beneath the Dust
Abigail’s condition worsens quickly. Elijah asks the church to pray. Missionaries from Perth come to anoint her. But nothing seems to help. Elijah begins studying the book of Joshua. When he reaches Joshua 21:43–45, he stops:
“Not one word failed of all the good words the Lord had spoken; all came to pass.”
These words burn into his heart. But the faith in his mind wrestles with the fear in his heart.
✦ ──────── ✦ ──────── ✦
📖 Chapter 3 – The Last Sabbath
Abigail insists on celebrating the Sabbath, even when she can barely speak. The family gathers on the veranda. Hannah reads 2 Timothy 2:11–13 aloud:
“If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful.”
Abigail takes Elijah’s hand. “He will not leave us. Even if you don’t feel it right now.”
Two days later, she passes away peacefully.

📖 Chapter 4 – The Desert of Silence
After the funeral, Elijah falls silent. For weeks. His ten-year-old daughter Hannah does not understand why her father no longer speaks. His sermons are missing at church. People pray. But Elijah feels betrayed by God. The Bible remains unopened. His hands build, repair, and work — but his heart is dry.
He avoids the eucalyptus tree. Too many memories.
✦ ──────── ✦ ──────── ✦
📖 Chapter 5 – The Call from Perth
One day, Elijah receives a call from an old study friend in Perth. The Adventist hospital there is looking for volunteers for a new project: “OutbackCare” — a mobile clinic for remote communities. Hannah urges him to try. Hesitantly, he sets out — accompanied by her children’s Bible and his wife’s old Bible.
✦ ──────── ✦ ──────── ✦
📖 Chapter 6 – Meeting the “Not Forgotten”
On one of his trips, Elijah meets a young Aboriginal boy named Djalu, who suffers from leukemia. Djalu has no family left. Elijah brings him to treatment and takes care of him. One day Djalu asks:
“Why are you kind to me? I’m nobody.”
For the first time in months, Elijah answers with more than a whisper:
“You are a promise. And God never forgets His promises.”
It is the first sentence Elijah speaks with conviction — and it changes everything.
✦ ──────── ✦ ──────── ✦
📖 Chapter 7 – The Tree Blooms Again
Back on the farm, the old eucalyptus tree still stands. Elijah sits beneath it with Hannah. She reads from 2 Corinthians 1:20:
“For all the promises of God find their Yes in Him.”
Elijah looks at her and says:
“I thought God had forgotten His word. But I didn’t understand that His faithfulness often doesn’t mean everything turns out well — it means we are not alone in it.”
He begins preaching again — first hesitantly, then with a burning heart. His first new sermon is titled: “All Came to Pass.”
✦ ──────── ✦ ──────── ✦
📖 Chapter 8 – The New Path
Elijah now works full-time for OutbackCare. Together with Hannah, he travels across the vast land, bringing medicine, prayer, and hope. On the back of his truck, painted in white letters, are the words:
“He remains faithful — even when we are not.”
(2 Timothy 2:13)
Everywhere he goes, he tells his story — of doubt, of death, and of the God who does not abandon us — not even under a eucalyptus tree in the middle of the outback.

🧠 Final Thoughts
“Under the Eucalyptus Tree” is a story about wrestling with God, about loss, about waiting — but above all about the unshakable faithfulness of God.
God kept His promises to Israel — despite their failures. And He keeps them to us as well — even when the path leads through the outback of life.
