β οΈ 2 Chronicles Chapter 12 β When one turns away from God
π When good beginnings donβt stay that way
π Introduction
At the beginning, everything was going well for Rehoboam. He listened to God, made wise decisions, and his kingdom grew stronger. The people sought God, and new hope arose.
But sometimes things change over time. When everything goes well, there is a danger of forgetting who truly helps. That is exactly what happens in this chapter.
π The Biblical Story
π A gradual change
After Rehoboamβs kingdom becomes strong and he feels secure, something changes. He and the people slowly turn away from God. It does not happen suddenly, but step by step. Yet the consequences do not fail to come.
What was once strong begins to weaken β not from the outside, but from within.
βοΈ An attack from outside
In this situation, a new enemy appears. Shishak, the king of Egypt, marches with a large army against Jerusalem. He brings many soldiers, chariots, and horsemen. It is a powerful army.
The fortified cities that Rehoboam had built cannot stop him. One after another falls into the hands of the enemy. Finally, the army stands before Jerusalem.
The danger is great. Now it becomes clear how serious the situation has become.
π£οΈ God speaks again
At that moment, the prophet Shemaiah comes again to Rehoboam and the leaders. He brings a clear message from God:
βYou have abandoned Me β therefore I have given you into the hands of your enemies.β
These words are clear. They show the connection between the peopleβs behavior and what is now happening.
π Realization and repentance
But this time something important happens. Rehoboam and the leaders recognize their mistake. They humble themselves and say, βThe Lord is righteous.β
They do not try to excuse themselves. They admit that they have acted wrongly.
This attitude changes something.
π God shows grace
When God sees that they humble themselves, He speaks again to Shemaiah. He says that He will not completely destroy them. Jerusalem will not be destroyed.
But the people will still feel the consequences. They will experience what it is like to serve others, so that they may understand the difference between a life with God and a life without Him.
ποΈ Loss and consequences
The king of Egypt takes many treasures from the temple and the palace. He also takes away the gold shields that Solomon had made.
Rehoboam replaces them with bronze shields. Outwardly it may look similar β but it is no longer the same.
This shows: when something is lost, it cannot simply be fully replaced.
π A mixed ending
Rehoboam continues to reign in Jerusalem. There are times when things go better for him because he remembers God again.
But overall, the picture remains mixed. There are good moments β but also wrong decisions.
This chapter shows: the path with God is not always straight, but it makes a difference whether one returns to Him.
