Where God’s miracles grow big – for little and big children

🧱📣 Judges 12 – When words can build bridges … or walls

🤝🗣️ About conflict, courage, and three new judges

🟠 Introduction

Sometimes something sad happens: people who actually belong together start to argue. That’s exactly what happens in the book of Judges, chapter 12. But in the middle of the conflict, God shows again: He continues His story—even when people make mistakes.
In this story, children learn how important it is to listen to God, not to anger.

📖 The Bible story

⚔️😠 An argument begins

After Jephthah had saved Israel in the previous chapter, something unexpected happened. Another part of the people, the Ephraimites, became angry.
They came to Jephthah and said:
“Why didn’t you take us with you when you went to fight? We’re offended!”

They were so angry that they even threatened to burn down Jephthah’s house! 🔥😳

Jephthah was shocked, but he answered calmly:
“I called you—you did not come. I had to act, or we would have been lost.”

But Ephraim didn’t listen.
The anger was like a fire that kept getting bigger. 🔥🔥🔥

⚔️ A sad battle

The argument between brothers became so great that words suddenly turned into weapons 😢. Israel fought against Israel.
That is one of the saddest scenes in the book of Judges.

The battle was harsh.
Jephthah’s men won—but it hurt.
No one really wanted to fight against their own people.

The conflict could have been prevented,
if the people had gone to God first—and talked with each other.

🌉 A strange word—and a sad ending

Part of the story feels to children almost like a scene from a movie.

Jephthah’s men stood at the Jordan River, where the Ephraimites wanted to flee.
But the two groups spoke differently.

So Jephthah’s men said:
“Say the word ‘Shibboleth’.”

The Ephraimites couldn’t pronounce the word correctly.
Their tongue turned it into:
“Sibboleth.”

And so Jephthah’s men knew who was friend and who was enemy.

Many people died that day—and all because of an argument that never needed to happen. 😔

👑 Three new judges

But the book doesn’t end only sadly.

After Jephthah came three new judges, and each led the land for a while:

🟤 1. Ibzan
✔ He had many children
✔ He arranged weddings and was a peaceful man 🎉

2. Elon
✔ He was a quiet judge
✔ Under him Israel had peace 🤍

🟡 3. Abdon
✔ He had many sons and grandsons
✔ They rode on 70 donkeys—like a royal parade 🐴🐴🐴
✔ He was a just and kind leader

These three judges show:
God never leaves His people alone, no matter how difficult the time is.

🟣 Summary

Israel argued with itself—and it brought a lot of suffering.
But God continued to lead His people and gave new judges so that peace could return.
