Where God’s miracles grow big – for little and big children

🌻 2 Kings Chapter 4 – God Helps in Secret

🏠 When miracles happen in everyday life

πŸŒ… Introduction

Not every miracle happens in front of a huge crowd.
Not every miracle happens on a battlefield.

Some miracles happen in small homes.
In kitchens.
In quiet rooms.
Right where people cry, hope, and pray.

Chapter 4 shows us:
God doesn’t only care about kings.
He also sees widows, mothers, and hungry people.

πŸ“– The Bible story

πŸ“– The Widow and the Oil

One day, a woman came to Elisha.
She was desperate.

β€œMy husband has died,” she said, crying.
β€œHe was a prophet of the Lord.
But now I have debts.
And the creditor wants to take my two sons as slaves!”

Elisha asked her calmly:
β€œWhat do you have in the house?”

The woman lowered her eyes.
β€œNothing β€” only a small jar of oil.”

Only a small jar.
Not much.
Almost nothing.

But God can make something great out of β€œalmost nothing.”

Elisha said:
β€œGo to your neighbors and borrow many empty jars.
Not just a few!
Then go into your house, shut the door,
and pour your oil into all the jars.”

That sounded strange.
Her oil was barely enough for one little jar!

But she did what Elisha said.

She borrowed many jars.
Her sons brought one after another.
And she began to pour.

The oil flowed.

One jar filled up.
Another one.
Another one.

β€œBring me another jar!” she cried.

But the sons said:
β€œThere isn’t one left.”

At that moment, the oil stopped flowing.

The woman ran to Elisha.
He said:

β€œSell the oil.
Pay your debts.
And you and your sons can live on what is left.”

God had provided.

🏠 The Hospitable Woman

In a town called Shunem lived a wealthy woman.
She noticed that Elisha often passed by.

β€œThis man is a holy man of God,” she said to her husband.
β€œLet’s build a small room for him β€” with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp.”

So Elisha had a place to rest.

One day Elisha wanted to do something good for her.

β€œWhat can I do for you?” he asked.

But she answered:
β€œI have everything I need.”

Gehazi, Elisha’s servant, said quietly:
β€œShe has no son. And her husband is old.”

So Elisha called her.

He said:
β€œAbout this time next year you will hold a son in your arms.”

The woman was shocked.
β€œPlease don’t give me false hope!”

But God’s word came true.

One year later, she was holding a little boy in her arms.

😒 A Heavy Blow

The boy grew up.
One day he ran out to his father in the field.

Suddenly he cried out:
β€œMy head! My head!”

They brought him to his mother.
She held him in her lap.

But around noon, he died.

What pain.

But the woman did something amazing.
She laid the boy in the prophet’s room.
Then she immediately set out to find Elisha.

When she reached him, she fell at his feet.

β€œDid I ever ask for a son?” she asked through tears.

Elisha understood.

πŸ™ God Gives New Life

Elisha went back with her.

He prayed to the Lord.
Then he lay down on the child.

Slowly the boy’s body became warm.

Elisha prayed again.
And again he lay down over him.

Then the boy sneezed seven times β€”
and opened his eyes!

Elisha called the mother.

β€œPick up your son.”

She fell at his feet β€”
but this time with gratitude.

God had given life.

🍲 Poison in the Pot

Later there was a famine in the land.

The prophets cooked a stew.
But someone had gathered wild fruit β€”
and it was poisonous.

As soon as they ate, they cried:
β€œDeath is in the pot!”

Elisha had flour brought
and threw it into the pot.

After that, the food was safe.

God protected them.

🍞 Bread for Many

A man brought Elisha twenty loaves of bread.

But there were a hundred men there.

β€œHow can I hand this out?” his servant asked.

Elisha said:
β€œGive it to the people.
For this is what the Lord says:
They will eat β€” and have some left over.”

And that’s exactly what happened.

Everyone ate.
And there was still some left.
