🌱 GROWING IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
🌿 Lesson 2: To Know God
📘 2.6 Summary
A clear picture of God changes everything
📖 1. Introduction – Why this is so important
Everything begins with a crucial question:
👉 How do I see God?
Because our image of God influences:
- how we believe
- how we trust
- how we live
A false image leads to distance.
A clear image leads to relationship.
📜 2. The main line of the lesson
This lesson has shown us step by step who God truly is:
👉 God can be known (2.1)
👉 God is holy (2.2)
👉 God is love (2.3)
👉 God is both great and near (2.4)
👉 God is revealed in Jesus (2.5)
The Bible presents a clear thread throughout:
👉 God reveals Himself — so that we may know Him.
✝️ 3. Central truth – The nature of God
The Bible describes God with powerful statements:
👉 “God is love” (1 John 4:8)
👉 “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord” (Rev. 4:8)
These two truths belong together.
God’s love is holy.
And His holiness is filled with love.
👉 This means:
God is perfectly good — in everything He is and does.
🌍 4. The great conflict – truth or distortion
From the beginning, one question has been present:
👉 Can God truly be trusted?
Already in the Garden of Eden, God’s character was distorted:
“God is holding something back.”
Ellen White describes it this way:
👉 “From the beginning of the great controversy, it has been Satan’s purpose to misrepresent the character of God…”
The goal remains the same today:
to create a false image of God.
Because:
👉 whoever sees God incorrectly distances themselves from Him.
💡 5. God’s answer – revelation instead of force
God forces no one.
He reveals Himself.
- in creation → His power
- in His Word → His truth
- in His actions → His faithfulness
- in Jesus → His heart
👉 “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9)
This means:
God is not hidden —
He has made Himself visible.
🔥 6. The decisive insight
This lesson leads to a clear understanding:
👉 God is greater than we understand
👉 and closer than we think
Or as the Bible says:
👉 “In Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28)
And at the same time:
👉 “Surely I am with you always” (Matt. 28:20)
👉 God is above us — and with us.
🔧 7. Application – What does this mean for me?
This insight is not just theoretical.
It calls for a response:
- Do I truly want to know God?
- Am I willing to correct my false image?
- Am I actively seeking Him?
Practically, this means:
Studying God’s Word
Looking to Jesus
Rediscovering God’s character
Trusting Him consciously
👉 Relationship grows through knowledge.
❓ 8. Reflection question
Is my image of God clear and biblical —
or shaped by experiences, fear, or habit?
👉 Do I truly know God —
or just an idea of Him?
🌟 9. Final thought
This lesson shows us something essential:
👉 It’s not first about doing more —
👉 but about knowing God correctly.
Because:
👉 Whoever knows God will trust Him
👉 Whoever trusts Him will love Him
👉 And whoever loves Him will live with Him
Or in summary:
👉 A clear picture of God changes everything.
