🌪️ A Farewell No One Will Ever Forget

🌅 Introduction

Have you ever had to say goodbye
to someone who was very important to you?

Maybe a teacher moved away.
Or a friend changed schools.

Goodbyes hurt.
Sometimes it feels like something is missing.

But God can turn a goodbye
into a new beginning.

That is exactly what happens in this story.

📖 The Bible story

Elijah was a great prophet of God.
He had witnessed miracles, fought against false gods,
and heard God’s voice.

But now the day had come
when God wanted to take him home.

Elisha, his faithful companion, knew about it.
And he did not want to leave Elijah’s side.

They walked together from Gilgal to Bethel.
On the way Elijah said:

“Stay here, Elisha. The Lord is sending me on.”

But Elisha answered firmly:

“As surely as the Lord lives – I will not leave you.”

And they continued on.

In Bethel, some prophets came out to meet them.
They whispered to Elisha:

“Do you know that the Lord will take your master from you today?”

Elisha only nodded.
He did not want to talk about it.

From there they went to Jericho.
Again Elijah tried to go on alone.
But Elisha stayed.

He was faithful – to the very end.

🌊 The Miracle at the Jordan

Finally they came to the Jordan River.
Fifty prophets stood at a distance
and watched everything closely.

Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up,
and struck the water with it.

And suddenly it happened:

The water divided!

The river stood on the right and on the left –
and between them was dry ground.

Elijah and Elisha walked across.

God showed His great power once more.

💬 A Special Request

On the other side Elijah stopped.

“Tell me what I can do for you
before I am taken from you.”

Elisha did not ask for money.
Not for fame.

He said:

“I want a double portion of your spirit.”

He wanted God’s power
to continue God’s work.

Elijah answered:

“If you see me when I am taken from you,
it will happen.”

🔥 The Fiery Chariot

Suddenly a storm arose.
The sky shone brightly.

A chariot of fire appeared,
with horses of fire.

It separated Elijah and Elisha.

And before Elisha’s eyes,
Elijah was taken up
into heaven in a whirlwind!

Elisha cried out:

“My father! My father!”

Then Elijah was gone.

🧥 The New Beginning

Only one thing remained:
Elijah’s cloak.

Elisha picked it up.

With a pounding heart he returned to the Jordan.
The other prophets were watching him.

Elisha took the cloak,
struck the water and cried:

“Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?”

And again the river divided.

Then everyone knew:
God was still there.
And now He was working through Elisha.

🟣 Summary

Elijah was not buried –
God took him to heaven in a fiery chariot.

Elisha was sad,
but God did not leave him alone.

The cloak was a sign:
God’s power continues.

When God ends something,
He often begins something new.

💚 Message for Children Today

Sometimes something changes in your life.
A chapter ends.
A person leaves.

But God remains.

He goes with you –
and maybe through you
something new is beginning.

Elisha shows us:
Faithfulness is worth it.
And whoever trusts God
will not be left alone.

💧 When the water suddenly runs out in the desert

Three kings go to war together.
The king of Israel, the king of Judah,
and the king of Edom.

They want to fight against Moab.

But then something unexpected happens:
After seven days marching through the desert,
there is no water left.

Not for the soldiers.
Not for the animals.

Fear spreads.
Was it a mistake to go?

The king of Israel despairs:

“Has the Lord brought us here
only to let us die?”

But then someone remembers:

“Is there not a prophet of the Lord here?”

And once again Elisha steps forward.

🌄 God promises help –
but first they must dig ditches.

Without rain.
Without clouds.
Without any visible sign.

Will God really send water?
And how will He help His people this time?

👉 In Chapter 3 we learn:
Even when you see nothing yet –
God may already be at work.
