๐Ÿ˜  2 Samuel Chapter 16 โ€“ David Is Mocked

โœจ When the King Shows Humility

๐ŸŒ… Introduction

When someone does you wrong or insults you โ€“
what do you do then?
Shout back? Defend yourself?
Or can you stay calm and trust in God?

This story is about King David โ€“
who, in a very difficult time, does not strike back,
but says:
โ€œPerhaps God sees my suffering โ€“ and will help me.โ€

๐Ÿ“– The Biblical Story

David was still on the run.
His son Absalom had made himself king.
David did not want war in Jerusalem,
so he had left the city with his faithful companions.

It was a hard time.
He was sad, tired, and did not have much with him.
But he was not alone.

๐Ÿ‡ Ziba โ€“ a Servant with Two Faces?

As David was just coming over a hill,
a man ran toward him.
His name was Ziba.
Ziba was the servant of Mephibosheth, the grandson of King Saul.
David had taken Mephibosheth into his house
and treated him like a son.

Ziba brought donkeys, bread, raisins, fruit, and wine.

โ€œWhat is all this for?โ€ David asked.

Ziba said:
โ€œThis is for you, my king.
Mephibosheth did not come along.
He thinks that now he may get the kingdom back.โ€

David was disappointed.
Had Mephibosheth really betrayed him?

Ziba made a good impression โ€“
but what he said was a lie.

David could not know it.
He believed Ziba and said:
โ€œThen Mephiboshethโ€™s fields now belong to you.โ€

(The whole matter is only cleared up much later โ€ฆ)

๐Ÿชจ A Man Throws Stones

Shortly afterward, David passed a place
where a man named Shimei lived.
He too was from Saulโ€™s family.

When he saw David, he became angry.
He shouted:
โ€œGet out of here! You are a murderer!
Now you are getting what you deserve!
Absalom is king โ€“ you are not anymore!โ€

As he did this, he threw stones and dust at David
and at his men.

Davidโ€™s friends were outraged.
One shouted:
โ€œWhy are we allowing this? Shall I kill him?โ€

But David said no.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Davidโ€™s Surprising Answer

David said:
โ€œLeave him alone. Perhaps the Lord has sent him.
Perhaps I do not see everything clearly right now.
God sees my heart โ€“
perhaps He will do me good because of what I am enduring now.โ€

That was strong.
David was hurt, exhausted, insulted โ€“
and yet he said:
โ€œI will not strike back.โ€

๐Ÿ‘‘ Meanwhile with Absalom โ€ฆ

While David continued to flee,
Absalom came to Jerusalem with his men.
He moved into the palace โ€“
as if he were truly the new king.

With him was Ahithophel, a very wise adviser.
He gave Absalom dangerous advice.
And it looked
as though Absalomโ€™s plan would really succeed โ€ฆ

But God had a greater plan.

๐ŸŸฃ Summary

David is on the run,
but he remains calm and humble.
Ziba brings him gifts โ€“ but his words are lies.
Shimei curses and insults David โ€“
but David lets him go on.

Instead of striking back, David trusts in God.
He believes: God sees everything โ€“
even when people are unfair to us.

๐Ÿ’š Message for Children Today

When someone treats you badly โ€“
annoys you, lies about you, or insults you โ€“
you may want to strike back right away.

But David shows us something different:
Staying gentle does not mean being weak.
It means being strong enough to leave judgment to God.

Because God sees your heart.
And He can bring justice โ€“
much better than we ever could ourselves.

๐Ÿ’ญ Reflection

๐Ÿ”ธ What would you do if someone insulted you or treated you unfairly?
๐Ÿ”ธ Can you trust God even when you do not immediately see the answer?
๐Ÿ”ธ What helps you stay calm when you are hurt?

๐Ÿ’Œ Invitation to 2 Samuel โ€“ Chapter 17

๐Ÿง  Two Advisers โ€“ Two Very Different Plans

Absalom now sits in the palace.
He acts as if he were king โ€“ but deep in his heart he knows:
David is still alive.

Now he must decide: What should he do?
Should he attack David immediately?
Or should he wait a little longer?

Two men give him advice.
One is very clever โ€“ but not honest.
The other is honest โ€“ but not on Absalomโ€™s side.

What happens when God guides the thoughts of people without them even noticing?

Chapter 17 shows how Godโ€™s plan continues โ€“
even when people make other plans.

๐Ÿ”” Teaser for Chapter 17

Ahithophel has a clever, dangerous plan:
โ€œLet me attack David at once with 12,000 soldiers,
while he is still tired! Then Israel will follow you!โ€

The plan sounds really good.
But then comes Hushai, Davidโ€™s secret friend.
He says:
โ€œNo, that is too dangerous. David is experienced. Better wait. Gather the whole army.โ€

Absalom thinks it over โ€ฆ
and decides against the better plan.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Why?
Because God intervened.

So Chapter 17 becomes proof:
God can even guide the thoughts of kings โ€“ so that His plan succeeds.
