๐ 2 Samuel Chapter 9 โ David Does Not Forget
โจ A King Who Keeps His Promises
๐ Introduction
King David had already fought many battles.
He was strong, wise, and loved by the people.
He had protected his people and made the land of Israel safe.
Now he could have rested.
But then he suddenly remembered something โฆ
An old promise.
A promise he did not want to forget โ
even though many others had long since forgotten it.
๐ The Biblical Story
One day David sat on his throne and thought about the past.
About the time before he was king.
About the years with his best friend Jonathan.
Jonathan had been brave, kind, and faithful.
And even though his father Saul had hated David,
Jonathan had always remained on Davidโs side.
And back then โ many years earlier โ
David had promised Jonathan something:
โWhen you are no longer here, I will be kind to your family. I will not forget them.โ
Now Jonathan had been dead for a long time.
And David asked his servants:
โIs there still anyone left from Saulโs family? I want to show him kindness โ for Jonathanโs sake.โ
A man named Ziba, a former servant of Saul, was brought in.
Ziba said:
โYes, there is still one.
His name is Mephibosheth.
He is a son of Jonathan.
But … he is crippled in both feet.โ
David said at once:
โBring him to me.โ
Mephibosheth was hidden away in a distant place.
He was poor, uncertain โ and probably very afraid of David.
Why?
Because he thought: โThe king will surely get rid of me because I still belong to Saulโs family.โ
When he stood before David, he fell trembling on his face.
โI am your servant,โ he said quietly.
But David said kindly:
โDo not be afraid.
I want to show you kindness โ not because you have earned anything,
but because I loved your father Jonathan.โ
David gave Mephibosheth all the fields and houses back that had once belonged to his family.
And not only that:
He said:
โYou will eat at my table โ every day. Like a kingโs son.โ
From that day on Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem.
Although he could not walk, he had a place at the kingโs table.
Not because he was strong โ
but because David had kept his promise.
๐ฃ Summary
David looks for someone to whom he can show kindness โ for Jonathanโs sake.
He finds Mephibosheth, a crippled man who feels worthless.
But David gives him honor, land, and a place at the kingโs table.
David shows: A king does not forget his promises โ and treats people with kindness.
๐ Message for Children Today
God is pleased when we are faithful โ
when we keep our promises and also think of people who are weak or forgotten.
David shows us:
Grace means doing good to someone,
even when he can do nothing to earn it.
And that is exactly how God treats us.
He invites us to His table โ
not because we do everything right,
but because He loves us.
๐ญ Reflection
๐ธ Do you know someone who is sometimes โforgottenโ?
๐ธ How can you show that you are faithful and kind โ like David?
๐ธ What does it mean to you that God invites you, even though you do not have to prove anything?

๐ Invitation to 2 Samuel โ Chapter 10
๐ When a Kind Heart Is Misunderstood
David wants to be kind.
He wants to comfort the new king of the Ammonites โ
because his father has died.
But instead of being glad for Davidโs kindness,
the Ammonites react with suspicion.
They think David wants to spy on them โ and only make everything worse.
What happens when goodness is misunderstood?
And how does David react when his friendship is answered with mockery and war?
๐ Teaser for Chapter 10
David sends his servants as a sign of friendship โ
but they are shamed and mocked.
The people of the Ammonites prepare for battle.
And David? He courageously faces the challenge.
Not alone โ but with his faithful commander Joab.
๐ Chapter 10 shows us:
Sometimes kindness is not accepted โ
but God is there when we act courageously and justly.
