🌅 Introduction

After the events of the previous chapter, David has reflected a lot.

He has experienced that good intentions are not everything. That it is important to listen to God and not simply rush ahead.

And right now a new stage begins.

David is king. His life becomes calmer. His kingdom grows.

But at the same time, new challenges also arise.

📖 The biblical story

🏡 A king is established

David now lives in Jerusalem, and little by little everything is being established.

Another king, Hiram of Tyre, sends him wood, workers, and materials. They build a beautiful house for David.

One can imagine how everything takes shape: walls are raised, rooms appear, a home for the king.

And David notices something important:

God truly has appointed him as king.
And God blesses him.

👨‍👩‍👦 His family grows

David’s family also continues to grow. He has more children, and his life becomes fuller.

It is a time when many things are going well.

But it is precisely in such times that it is important to remain watchful.

⚔️ Danger draws near

The Philistines hear that David is now king.

And they are not happy about it.

They set out to fight against him.

Suddenly, David once again finds himself facing a difficult situation.

🙏 David asks God

But this time David does something differently than before.

He does not act immediately.

He asks God: “Should I fight against them? Will You help me?”

This is an important moment.

David does not rely only on his own experience or strength. He seeks God’s guidance.

🛡️ God answers

And God answers him.

He tells him to go into battle and that He will give him victory.

David trusts this.

He goes out to fight.

And it happens exactly like that: he wins.

David recognizes: it was not his own strength. It was God who helped.

🔥 Setting a sign

After the victory, they destroy the Philistines’ idols.

This shows: those false gods have no power.

Only God is truly strong.

⚠️ A second challenge

But the story is not over yet.

The Philistines come back.

Again they are facing a battle.

Now David could have thought: “I already know how this works. I’ll just do the same thing as before.”

But he does not do that.

🙏 Again he asks God

David asks God once more.

And this time he gets a different answer.

God tells him not to attack directly, but to take another way.

That is surprising.

🌬️ A special sign

God gives him a sign: when David hears a certain sound—like footsteps in the treetops—then he is to advance.

It is a moment of waiting.

David must stay alert. He must listen.

And act at exactly the right moment.

⚔️ Victory comes again

David does exactly that.

He listens to God.
He waits.
He acts at the right moment.

And again he wins.

The enemies are defeated, and David’s name becomes known throughout the whole land.

🌅 What this chapter shows

This chapter shows an important difference.

David does not simply act impulsively.

He asks God.
He listens.
He obeys.

And that is exactly what makes the difference.

David grows stronger, his kingdom expands, and he builds a home for himself.

But enemies attack.

Twice he faces a battle, and both times he asks God.

Because he listens to God, he wins.

You do not have to decide everything on your own.

You can ask God.

He wants to help you find the right way.

And sometimes that also means waiting and listening very carefully.
