🌅 Devotional Thought of the Day
Daniel lived most of his life far away from Jerusalem.
His home was lost,
his homeland occupied,
the temple destroyed.
And yet, he did not lose his hope.
He lived in exile —
but not without purpose.
This experience connects Daniel with all believers:
We too live in a world
that is not our final home.
“Beloved, I urge you as strangers and pilgrims.”
— 1 Peter 2:11
✨ Faithfulness Without a Visible Homeland
Exile could have made Daniel bitter.
But he remained faithful to God and served faithfully where he was.
He lived with an inner focus on God’s promises.
Ellen G. White wrote:
“Although Daniel lived far from his homeland, his heart remained connected with God.”
(Prophets and Kings, p. 481)
Our external circumstances do not determine our spiritual home.
🌿 A Hope That Reaches Beyond the Present
Daniel prayed facing Jerusalem.
That was more than tradition —
it was hope.
He knew: God has prepared a home.
“In My Father’s house are many rooms… I go to prepare a place for you.”
— John 14:2
The hope of God’s kingdom gave Daniel strength
to live faithfully in a foreign culture.
🕊️ A Life as Pilgrims
As Christians, we are invited
not to cling too tightly to what is temporary.
This does not mean escaping the world,
but having a different perspective.
Ellen G. White wrote:
“The life of the Christian is a pilgrimage toward the eternal home.”
(Maranatha, p. 310)
Our true identity is not in this world,
but in the coming kingdom.
🌄 Hope Carries Through Exile
Perhaps you also sometimes feel like a stranger —
misunderstood,
not at home.
Daniel reminds us:
God is present even in exile.
His presence turns every place into a place of hope.
🙏 Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
thank You that You are my true home.
When I feel like a stranger or lost,
remind me that my home is with You.
Help me to live faithfully,
even when I do not understand everything.
Set my heart on Your coming kingdom,
where I will be with You forever.
Amen.
