👑 The King is coming soon – Hope beyond the end

🎓 March 17 – Wisdom and Character: God’s School of Education in Babylon

Monthly Theme: Daniel: The God Who Guides History – Faithfulness in the Fire of Testing
Year Theme 2026: “Soon the King Is Coming – Hope Beyond the End”

📖 Central Bible Verse of the Day

“And God gave these four young men knowledge and understanding in all literature and wisdom;
and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.”
Daniel 1:17

🌅 Devotional of the Day

Babylon wanted to reshape Daniel and his friends.
They were to learn the language, science, and culture of the empire.

But while Babylon tried to redefine their identity,
God was shaping their character.

The Bible does not first say that they were intelligent—
but that God gave them wisdom.

True education does not begin in the mind,
but in a heart that belongs to God.

Education without the fear of God?

The wisdom of Babylon was impressive,
but it could not replace God’s truth.

Daniel learned much—
but he tested everything in the light of his relationship with God.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”
— Proverbs 1:7

Knowledge alone does not transform a person.
Character is formed through daily decisions.

Ellen G. White wrote:
“True education means the harmonious development of the physical, mental, and spiritual powers.”
(Education, p. 13)

🌿 Character in the Test

The training at the Babylonian court was a test.
Would they give up their values in order to succeed?

But God honored their faithfulness.

“And in all matters … the king found them ten times better.”
— Daniel 1:20

Excellence and faithfulness are not opposites.
On the contrary: God’s children are called to serve with integrity and quality.

🕊️ Wisdom for Today

We also live in a time full of knowledge and information.
But wisdom means discerning between what is important and what is not.

God’s school of education teaches:

Humility instead of pride

Truth instead of compromise

Service instead of self-glorification

Ellen G. White wrote:
“Character is more important than knowledge; for it alone will be taken into eternity.”
(Maranatha, p. 249)

🌄 A Testimony through Excellence

Daniel and his friends were not only devout—
they were reliable, wise, and responsible.

Their faithfulness made them credible.

In the same way, our daily lives become a testimony:
through honesty, diligence, and integrity.

🙏 Prayer

Dear Father in heaven,
thank You that You are my teacher.

Give me wisdom that comes from You,
and shape my character according to Your image.

Help me to combine knowledge with humility
and to remain faithful in everything.

Let my life be a testimony of Your truth.

Amen.

💭 Thought for the Day

Ellen G. White, Education
