π Central Bible Text of the Day
βThen the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked β¦
And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.
And the man hid himself from the presence of the LORD God.β
β Genesis 3:7β8
π Devotion for the Day
In Eden, perfect peace once reigned.
Adam and Eve lived in harmony with God,
with creation, and with one another.
But one day the light of innocence was dimmed
when distrust toward God
entered the human heart.
βDid God really say β¦?β
β Genesis 3:1
Thus began the fall of humanity β
not with an action,
but with a doubt in Godβs love.
Satan sowed mistrust,
and the heart that once found joy in Godβs presence
now feared Him.
Ellen G. White wrote:
βDistrust of Godβs goodness,
unbelief in His love, and disregard of His law β
these were the seeds that planted sin in the human heart.β
(The Great Controversy, p. 500)
β¨ The Consequences of Disobedience
Sin brought separation,
shame, and death into a world
that had known only life.
βYour iniquities have separated you from your God;
your sins have hidden His face from you.β
β Isaiah 59:2
Adam and Eve fled β
not because God turned away,
but because the light of His holiness
had become unbearable in the darkness of sin.
Yet even in judgment,
the first ray of grace shines forth:
βAnd I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.β
β Genesis 3:15
In this promise lay the seed of the gospel,
the light of hope in the midst of the fallβs darkness.
Ellen White wrote:
βThis first ray of hope illuminated the night of fear.
Even in Eden the plan of redemption was revealed,
to lift humanity from the depths of sin.β
(Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 57)
πΏ Godβs Love Does Not Cease
The fall of humanity did not surprise God.
His love remained unchanged,
His plan stood firm.
βFor God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him
shall not perish but have eternal life.β
β John 3:16
The Garden of Eden was closed,
but the way to the Tree of Life
is reopened through the cross.
The flame of the sword before Paradise
now shines as the fire of divine grace.
Ellen White explains:
βWhen Adam saw the first thorns and thistles,
he wept.
But when he saw the sacrificial lamb
symbolizing the coming Redeemer,
he believed and found hope.β
(Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 61)
ποΈ The Plan of Restoration
The history of humanity
is the story of divine patience.
Since Eden, God has been working
to save lost humanity.
βFor just as through the disobedience of the one man
the many were made sinners,
so also through the obedience of the one
the many will be made righteous.β
β Romans 5:19
The second Adam, Jesus Christ,
came to regain
what the first had lost.
Ellen White wrote:
βChrist entered where Adam had fallen
and resisted every temptation.
His victory is the guarantee of our victory,
if we trust in Him.β
(The Desire of Ages, p. 49)
The gospel is the story
of the God who calls after the sinner:
βAdam, where are you?β β
not to condemn,
but to save.
π The Hope of the Redeemed
The fall began with a tree,
but redemption also ends at a tree β
the cross.
There the serpentβs head was crushed,
and the way to the tree of life was opened.
βBlessed are those who do His commandments,
that they may have the right to the tree of life
and may enter through the gates into the city.β
β Revelation 22:14
Ellen White writes:
βThe hand that drove humanity from Eden
was the same hand stretched out on the cross.
Godβs love was the same β
yesterday, today, and forever.β
(The Great Controversy, p. 678)
π Prayer
Heavenly Father,
thank You that Your love is stronger than our failure.I confess my fall,
but I thank You for Your Redeemer, Jesus Christ.Lift me up where I have fallen.
Open for me the way back to Your heart.Let me live daily in the light of Your grace
until the curse of sin ends forever.Amen.
π Thought for the Day
βHumanity fell, but God followed after β
not to punish,
but to save.β
β Ellen G. White, Maranatha, p. 234
