🏔️ Judges 21 – When a people search for a new beginning

🗺️ How people regret their mistakes – and how God shows ways to find peace

🌼 Introduction

Do you know that feeling when something has completely fallen apart?
A friendship, a fight, a misunderstanding that became bigger than expected?
Sometimes people don’t know how to make things right again.

That is how it was at the end of the Book of Judges.
The people of Israel were broken — not because enemies came, but because they had fought against each other.
And now they stood there… sad, silent… looking for a new beginning.

📖 The Bible story

🌑 A great sadness lies over Israel

All the people gathered in the city of Bethel.
They cried so loudly that everyone could hear them.
They were not crying because enemies had defeated them —
but because they had destroyed themselves.

The tribe of Benjamin, one of the twelve tribes of Israel,
was almost gone.
Only 600 men were left —
no women, no children, no one else.

The people said,
“How could this have happened? What have we done?”

They felt it in their hearts:
Anger made us blind.
We forgot to love one another.

🕯️ What can you do when everything has gone wrong?

Earlier the Israelites had sworn:
“No one of us will give his daughter to the men of Benjamin.”

Back then they were angry.
Now they were sad.
They had made a promise that was now destroying lives.

Imagine wanting to help someone,
but having said something that makes it impossible…

The people cried again:
“Lord, why has one of your tribes disappeared?
Why is Benjamin almost gone?”

God was silent — but He saw.
He felt their pain.

🤯 A strange solution

The leaders of the people talked together:

“We must help Benjamin, or it will disappear from Israel.
We need wives for the men.
But how? We are not allowed to give them any.”

They searched for a solution —
not an easy one, not a perfect one,
just something that could bring peace.

They found a city that had not come to the war even though it should have:
Jabesh-Gilead.
So they decided to take wives for the men of Benjamin from there.

It was a serious plan.
Some decisions in the Bible are hard to understand,
but they show this:

People sometimes try to do what is right — but very imperfectly.

🎉 Another idea – a festival among the trees

There were still not enough women.
So the leaders said:

“In Shiloh there is a festival for the Lord.
Young women dance in the vineyards there.
If the men of Benjamin go and take wives,
we will explain it afterward.”

It sounds strange — maybe even wrong —
but at that time it was a way
to avoid violent war
and to let new families begin.

If a father asked,
“Why did you not protect my daughter?”
they were to say:

“Please forgive us.
We had to give Benjamin a future.”

🌈 A hopeful beginning

So the 600 men of Benjamin found wives.
They built houses, families, and fields,
and the tribe came back to life.

Slowly, slowly
children were born again,
laughter returned to the streets,
and hope came back to their hearts.

At the end of the Book of Judges we read:

“There was no king in Israel,
and everyone did what he thought was right.”

It sounds sad — but also honest.
Because it shows what the book of Judges is really about:

When people forget God, they lose their direction.
But when they return to Him, He gives new paths.

⭐ The tribe of Benjamin was almost gone.
⭐ Israel cried over its own mistakes.
⭐ They searched for solutions — and God helped bring peace.
⭐ In the end they learned: people need guidance, love, and God’s truth.

💛 Mistakes are part of life — we all make them.
💛 What matters most is not being perfect,
but being willing to make things right again.
💛 God can create something new
even out of very difficult situations.
💛 When we are honest and seek comfort,
God hears us — even when we feel nothing.
