Monthly theme: The Blessed Hope โ Living in Expectation
Theme for 2026: โSoon the King Is Coming โ Hope Beyond the Endโ
๐ Central Bible Text of the Day
โRemember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days you shall labor and do all your work;
but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.โ
โ Exodus 20:8โ10
๐ Devotional of the Day
The Sabbath is the eternal sign between God and His people.
It was not given only to Israel, but to humanityโ
in Eden, when everything was still perfect.
It reminds us
that God is Creator
and that we are His creatures.
โAnd God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it,
because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.โ
โ Genesis 2:3
The Sabbath, then, is not a law from Sinai alone,
but a gift from Edenโ
a memorial of creation and love.
It is Godโs invitation to pause,
to remember, to give thanks, and to rest in His presence.
Ellen G. White wrote:
โThe Sabbath is the sign of Godโs power,
who created heaven and earth.
It reminds us of His creation and His redemption,
and it binds humanity in inseparable love to its Creator.โ
(The Great Controversy, p. 437)
โจ The Sabbath โ A Sign of Relationship
โAnd He said to them, โThe Sabbath was made for man,
and not man for the Sabbath.โโ
โ Mark 2:27
Jesus Himself showed
that the Sabbath is not a yoke,
but a joy.
It was created
so that humanity might find restโ
not only physically, but spiritually.
Ellen White wrote:
โThe Sabbath was appointed
to remind humanity of the love and power of God.
It was to be a time when people meet God
and contemplate His works of creation and redemption.โ
(Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 48)
When we rest on the Sabbath,
we confess that God is our Creator and Redeemer.
Every Sabbath celebration is an act of faithโ
a quiet testimony:
โI do not belong to the world,
but to the One who created and redeemed me.โ
๐ฟ The Sabbath and Redemption
Just as creation was completed on the seventh day,
so redemption was accomplished at the cross,
when Jesus cried: โIt is finished!โ (John 19:30).
Therefore the Sabbath is also a sign of redemption,
a day of rest in grace.
โCome to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.โ
โ Matthew 11:28
The Sabbath invites us
to lay aside our works
and to find peace in Christโs finished work.
Ellen White explains:
โAs God rested after creation,
so we rest on the Sabbath in His love.
By resting on the Sabbath we testify
that we are redeemed not by our works,
but by the grace of Christ.โ
(The Great Controversy, p. 437)
๐๏ธ The Sabbath in Eternity
The Sabbath was established in Eden
and will continue in the new heaven.
โAnd it shall come to pass:
from one New Moon to another,
and from one Sabbath to another,
all flesh shall come to worship before Me,โ says the Lord.
โ Isaiah 66:23
The Sabbath is therefore eternalโ
the sign of the bond between God and His children,
between creation and eternity.
Ellen G. White writes:
โThe Sabbath, instituted in Eden,
will also be honored in the new earth.
From Sabbath to Sabbath the redeemed will come
to praise God and behold His glory.โ
(The Great Controversy, p. 678)
What a hope:
the Sabbath is the bridge from Eden to the new earthโ
the sign that Godโs plan is complete.
๐ Prayer
Creator God,
thank You for the Sabbath,
the sign of Your love and power.
Teach me to live in Your restโ
not only on the seventh day,
but in every moment of fellowship with You.
May every Sabbath be a foretaste
of the eternal rest in Your kingdom.
Amen.
๐ญ Thought for the Day
โThe Sabbath is the golden bond
that connects humanity with its Creator.
It reminds us of what was,
and points to what will be eternal.โ
โ Ellen G. White, Maranatha, p. 369
