Where Godโs miracles grow big โ for little and big children
๐ก๏ธ Judges 11 โ A brave man with a heavy heart
๐ How God uses someone who doesnโt feel valuable
๐ Introduction
Sometimes children (and adults too!) believe they are not good enough.
Some are laughed at, some are left out, some feel like they โdonโt belong.โ
In Judges 11 we meet someone who felt exactly like that โ Jephthah.
But God saw something in him that no one else saw.
And God turned a wounded boy into a brave leader.
๐ The Bible story
๐ง๐ A boy with a difficult start
Once there was a boy named Jephthah.
He was strong and brave โ but he had a big problem:
his half-brothers did not like him.
They said to him:
โYou donโt belong to us! You are different! You will get nothing from our inheritance!โ
So Jephthah was thrown out.
He had to leave, far away โ to a land called Tob ๐ต.
There he lived alone, without family, without friends, without a home.
Only a few adventurers joined him โ men who often got into trouble themselves ๐ก๏ธ.
Jephthah grew up like someone nobody wanted.
Maybe he felt worthless.
Maybe he thought:
โWhy does nobody want me?โ ๐
But God saw something in his heart.
Something good. Something strong.
โ๏ธ๐ฅ A big problem for Israel
While Jephthah was far away, something bad happened at home:
The Ammonites, an enemy people, came into the land.
They wanted to attack Israel.
The Israelites were afraid.
They didnโt know what to do.
They were looking for a strong leader โ but no one dared.
Then someone remembered:
โWait โฆ Jephthah! He is strong! He is brave!โ
Suddenly they wanted back the man they had once rejected.
They ran to his land and called out:
โJephthah! Come back! Help us! Be our leader!โ ๐ฎ
๐โค๏ธ Jephthahโs hard decision
Jephthah looked at them and asked sadly:
โYou chased me away โฆ and now you want me?โ
The men of Israel became very quiet:
โYes โฆ please forgive us! We need you!โ
Jephthah thought about it.
He was hurt.
But in his heart he felt that God was calling him.
So he said:
โIf I come back and fight โ and if God gives us the victory โ then I will be your leader, right?โ
โYes, Jephthah! We promise!โ
So Jephthah went back.
Not as an outcast,
but as a leader given by God.
๐๏ธโจ A wise man who wanted peace
Before he fought, Jephthah did something surprising:
he tried to make peace.
He sent messengers, he explained, he spoke calmly, kindly, and wisely.
But the Ammonites would not listen.
They wanted war.
Then Jephthah knew:
Now God must step in.
๐๐ฆ Jephthah trusts God โ and God helps
Jephthah prayed.
Very seriously. Very deeply. Very honestly.
He knew:
โI can fight โ but only God can give the victory.โ
And that is exactly what God did.
Jephthah led the people bravely into battle.
And God gave them a mighty victory ๐ฅ๐.
Israel was saved.
A man who had once been driven away was now the hero of an entire nation.
๐ฃ Summary
Jephthah was rejected by his family and had to live alone.
But God saw his heart and called him.
When Israel was threatened by enemies, they asked Jephthah to come back.
Jephthah led the people โ and God gave a great victory.
God sometimes uses exactly the people others reject.
๐ Message for us today
๐ God sees you, even when others overlook you.
๐ No one is โtoo weak,โ โtoo unimportant,โ or โnot good enoughโ for God.
๐ Your past does not decide what God can do with you in the future.
๐ God loves to make something wonderful out of a wounded heart.
๐ When we trust God, He can make us a great help to others.
๐ญ Thoughts to reflect on
๐ Have you ever felt left out?
๐ What strengths do you think God sees in you?
๐ How could you help someone today โ the way Jephthah helped his people?
๐งย ๐งย ๐ฆ
๐ Ready for the next stage of our journey?
Then come with us to Judges 12 โ a story that shows how important understanding is โฆ and how easily it can be lost.
๐ฃ๏ธ One word โ and everything escalates!
Two groups. One argument. One simple word suddenly decides between life and death.
Why? Because people no longer listen to each other.
In this story we learn:
๐ Words are powerful.
๐ And how quickly pride turns into conflict when God is missing.
๐ Judges 12 โ When conflict becomes bigger than togetherness.
