⏳ 2 Kings Chapter 20 – When God Gives Time

πŸ™ A Healed Heart – and an Important Lesson

πŸŒ… Introduction

What would you do
if someone told you:

β€œYour time is almost over”?

Would you be afraid?
Would you cry?
Would you pray?

In chapter 20, King Hezekiah becomes very sick.
And this time no army is standing at the doorβ€”
but something much more personal:

His own life.

πŸ“– The Biblical Story

πŸ“– The Bad News

Hezekiah was sick.
Very sick.

The prophet Isaiah came to him
with a serious message:

β€œThus says the Lord:
Set your house in order,
for you shall die
and not live.”

That was not easy news.

No hope.
No long explanation.

Only these words.

πŸ™ An Honest Prayer

Hezekiah turned his face to the wall.

He wanted to speak with God alone.

And he prayed:

β€œO Lord,
please remember
how I have walked before you
with a faithful heart
and have done what pleases you.”

And he wept bitterly.

It was not a proud prayer.
Not a long prayer.
But an honest cry.

And God heard.

πŸ“£ God’s Answer

Before Isaiah had even left the palace courtyard,
God spoke to him again:

β€œGo back to Hezekiah and say:
I have heard your prayer.
I have seen your tears.
I will heal you.
In three days you will go up to the temple again.
And I will add fifteen years to your life.”

What a change!

From β€œYou will die”
to β€œI will give you more time.”

God sees tears.
God hears prayer.

πŸŒ… A Special Sign

Hezekiah even received a sign.

Isaiah said:

β€œThe shadow on the sundial
will go back ten steps.”

Normally a shadow only moves forward.

But on that day
it moved backward.

A visible sign:

God has power
over time and life.

πŸ’Œ Visitors from a Distant Land

When Hezekiah became well again,
a king from Babylon heard about it.

He sent gifts
and friendly greetings.

Hezekiah was very pleased.

He showed the messengers everything:

His treasures.
His silver and gold.
His weapons storehouses.

He showed them everything
he had.

Maybe he was proud.
Maybe he wanted to impress them.

But he did not ask God.

⚠️ A Serious Warning

Later Isaiah came to him
and asked:

β€œWhat did these men see?”

Hezekiah answered honestly:
β€œEverything.”

Then Isaiah said:

β€œA time will come
when Babylon will carry away all these treasures.
And even some of your descendants
will serve in a foreign land.”

That was a serious message.

Hezekiah had trusted God
when he was sick.

But after his healing,
his heart did not remain fully watchful.

🟣 Summary

Hezekiah became terribly sick.
He prayed.
God heard.
God healed him.
God gave him fifteen more years.

But later Hezekiah became careless
and proudly showed his wealth.

Chapter 20 shows:

God is gracious.
But even after a miracle
we must remain faithful in our hearts.

πŸ’š Message for Children Today

God hears your prayers.

He sees your tears.
He knows your worries.

But do not forget Him
when things go well again.

Sometimes it is easy to pray
when we are afraid.

But it is harder
to remain thankful and humble.

God gives time.
And He wants us
to use it well.

πŸ’ Thought Prompt

πŸ”Έ Do you pray honestly when you have worries?
πŸ”Έ Do you thank God when everything goes well?
πŸ”Έ How can you use your β€œgiven time” well?

πŸŒ‘ When a King Breaks Everything Again

After Hezekiah, his son Manasseh becomes king.

He rebuilds idols.
He moves far away from God.

But even in dark times
God does not give up.
