π₯ 2 Kings Chapter 10 β A King Cleans House
βοΈ When Zeal Isnβt Everything
π Introduction
Sometimes someone starts something with great determination.
He wants to do everything right.
He wants to bring order.
He wants to remove evil.
But one important question remains:
Does he really do it with his whole heart for God?
Or only halfway?
Chapter 10 shows us a king
who acts bravelyβ
but does not remain fully faithful.
π The Biblical Story
π Jehu Strengthens His Reign
Jehu was now king of Israel.
But the house of Ahab had not completely disappeared yet.
In Samaria, seventy sons of Ahab were still living.
Jehu wrote letters to the leading men of the city.
He challenged them:
βIf you are strong enough,
put one of Ahabβs sons on the throne
and fight!β
But the men were afraid.
They knew what had happened to Joram.
They knew how determined Jehu was.
So they wrote back:
βWe are your servants.
We will do whatever you say.β
Jehu demanded a harsh proof:
the heads of the seventy sons.
It was a serious and bloody time.
Godβs announced judgment was being fulfilled.
The next day the heads lay at the city gate.
Jehu explained to the people:
βKnow this: Not a single word of the LORD has fallen to the ground.
What God announced through Elijah
has happened.β
π€ Meeting Jonadab
On the way, Jehu met a man named Jonadab.
He was known for taking God seriously.
Jehu asked him:
βIs your heart as sincere as mine?β
Jonadab answered, βYes.β
Jehu took him up into his chariot.
He wanted to show:
βLook at my zeal for the LORD!β
Jehu was convinced
that he was defending Godβs cause.
π The End of Baal Worship
But there was still a big problem in Israel:
the worship of Baal.
False priests.
False sacrifices.
A false god.
Jehu made a plan.
He had it proclaimed:
βAhab served Baal a littleβ
Jehu will serve him much!β
That was a trick.
He summoned all the priests of Baal
to a great sacrifice festival.
No one was to be missing.
Soon the temple of Baal was full.
Then Jehu commanded:
βMake sure no servant of the LORD is hereβ
only the priests of Baal!β
When everyone was gathered,
Jehu gave the signal.
His men went in
and put an end to Baal worship.
The temple was destroyed.
The idols were smashed.
So Baal worship disappeared from Israel.
β οΈ But Not Fully Faithful
God saw what Jehu did.
He truly had done something good:
he removed Baal worship.
And God said:
βBecause you have done well
what is right in My eyes,
your sons to the fourth generation
shall sit on the throne.β
But there was a problem.
Jehu did not hold to all of Godβs law.
He removed Baalβ
but he left the golden calves in Bethel and Dan.
Those idols had long been a wrong path for Israel.
So Jehu did many things right.
But not everything.
He was zealous.
But not faithful with his whole heart.
π The Consequences
Because Israel did not fully turn back,
God allowed
enemies to take parts of the land.
Jehu reigned 28 years.
Then he died.
And his son became king.
Godβs word had been fulfilledβ
but Israel still was not fully walking in Godβs ways.
π£ Summary
Jehu acted decisively.
He destroyed Baal worship.
He carried out Godβs announced judgment.
But he did not remain fully obedient.
He removed some wrong thingsβ
but not all.
God sees not only our zeal,
but our whole heart.
π Message for Children Today
Maybe you want to do the right thing.
Maybe you try hard.
But God doesnβt want only half-obedience.
He wants your whole heart.
Not just a part.
Not only when it suits you.
Faithfulness means:
trusting God completelyβ
even in small things.
π Reflection
πΈ Are there areas in your life where you are only βhalfβ obedient?
πΈ Do you do the right thing to look goodβor out of love for God?
πΈ What does βwhole heartβ look like for you?
