🐏 Judges 20 – A sad conflict between brothers

πŸ”₯ How Israel fights for justice – and almost forgets what love is

🌼 Introduction

Sometimes people argue so badly that they forget they actually belong together.
That is what happened to the tribes of Israel in Chapter 20.
They wanted to do what was rightβ€”but in the end, everyone was hurt.

Here we learn how important it is to ask God first before we act …
and how deeply conflict can wound hearts.

πŸ“– The Bible story

Israel is in turmoil.
All the tribes come togetherβ€”hundreds of thousands of men, as many as the sand by the sea.
They are angry, sad, and disappointed πŸ˜”.

Something terrible had happened in the tribe of Benjamin (Chapter 19)β€”
so terrible that all Israel said:

β€œThat must never happen again! We must act!”

πŸ”₯ They wanted justiceβ€”and right away.

They called the tribe of Benjamin and said:

β€œHand over the men who did this evil!
They must be punished!”

But Benjamin said NO.
They protected the guilty men and stood against the other tribes.
Suddenly brothers were standing against brothers.
Twelve tribes against one.
One peopleβ€”torn apart.

Israel asked God:

β€œShould we fight?”

God said:

β€œYesβ€”go up.”

And so a very sad war began.
Israel fought hardβ€”but on the first day they lost.
Many men fell.
Tears. Wounded hearts πŸ’”.

They asked God again.
Once more He said:

β€œFightβ€”I am with you.”

But even on the second day they lost.
More pain.
More sorrow.

The Israelites sat before the sanctuary, crying loudly and fasting 😒.
They brought offerings.
This time they asked humbly:

β€œLord, should we fight again?
Or should we stop?”

And at last God said:

β€œTomorrow I will give you the victory.”

On the third day Israel attacked differentlyβ€”
with a plan, not just strength.
At first Benjamin seemed strongβ€”
but then everything changed.

In the end, Israel won.

But the victory did not feel good.
Because Benjamin lay broken, and Israel realized:

β€œWe have struck our own brother …”

Silence.
Sadness spread like dark clouds.
Everyone sat thereβ€”tired, dusty, with aching hearts.

The people understood:

⚠ Justice without love can destroy.
πŸ’” Conflict can tear families apart.
🌿 God wants healingβ€”not victory at any price.

And so the chapter endsβ€”heavy, but important.
It prepares the way for Chapter 21, where Israel tries to make things right again.
