🔵 Introduction
Welcome to our study of the final chapter in the book of Ruth.
Ruth 4 brings the story to a surprising and deeply moving conclusion. What began with loss, hunger, migration, and hopelessness ends with restoration, family, blessing — and the beginning of a royal lineage.
In this chapter we see not only the conclusion of a love story, but above all the visible proof that God does not forget faithful hearts. It deals with legal matters, decisions, and cultural rituals — but at the center stands God’s plan, which is greater than any human circumstance.

🟡 Commentary
Imagine this: the sun rises over Bethlehem. The streets are busy, but something special is happening at the city gate. Boaz — a respected man, just, honorable, and wise — sits down. He has a plan. And this plan will not only change Ruth’s life, but the entire history of Israel.
The closer relative, who had the first right to redeem the inheritance, is summoned. Ten elders sit down — they are witnesses. Boaz calmly explains the situation: Naomi is selling the field that belonged to her late husband. The relative agrees immediately — until Boaz mentions the second condition: “You must also take Ruth the Moabite as your wife, to raise up offspring for the deceased.”
Suddenly everything changes. The man declines — out of concern for his own inheritance. And so Boaz is free to do what he had already resolved in his heart: he will marry Ruth — out of love, but also out of righteousness.
The agreement is made formally before the elders and all the people. An ancient custom is carried out: the man removes his sandal, a symbolic act of transferring the right of redemption.
And Boaz declares openly before everyone: “You are witnesses — I have taken Ruth as my wife.”
A moment of honor. Nothing hidden. It is public, visible, and solemn.
The people bless the union. May Ruth be like Rachel and Leah — mothers of Israel. May their house grow like that of Perez. Such words of blessing were not everyday phrases. They show how Boaz and Ruth have now become part of God’s story.
The narrative ends with the birth of a child. Ruth gives birth to Obed. Not just any child. Obed becomes the grandfather of David — Israel’s greatest king. And ultimately, it is through this line that Jesus Christ Himself is born.
And Naomi? The woman who once said, “Call me Mara, for the Lord has made me bitter,” now holds a child in her arms. Hope. Restoration. Joy.

📢 Message for today

Ruth was a foreigner. Naomi was a widow with no prospects. Boaz was a man of justice. And God was the invisible director, bringing redemption out of human brokenness.
This story shows us:

👑 God builds His kingdom in ways we don’t always understand — but recognize in hindsight.
✝️ Jesus comes from this line — because God includes people with open hearts in His plans.
