πŸ‘‘ 2 Kings Chapter 8 – When God’s Word Is Fulfilled

πŸ•°οΈ Decisions Have Consequences

πŸŒ… Introduction

Some things do not happen immediately.

Sometimes God says something β€”
and only years later people see
that it was truly true.

And sometimes people make decisions
that have great consequences β€”
for themselves and for others.

In chapter 8 we see both:
God’s faithfulness β€”
and human responsibility.

πŸ“– The Biblical Story

πŸ“– The Woman Who Lost Everything – and Got Everything Back

Do you remember the woman from Shunem?
The woman whose son had died β€”
and whom Elisha brought back to life?

Elisha once said to her:

β€œGo away with your family,
for the Lord has announced a famine.
It will last seven years.”

The woman believed God’s word.
She packed her things
and moved to the land of the Philistines.

She stayed there for seven years.

When the famine was over,
she returned.

But now she had a problem:

Her house and her field
were no longer in her possession.

So she went to the king
to ask for her land.

And at that very moment,
Gehazi β€” Elisha’s former servant β€”
was telling the king about Elisha’s miracles.

He was reporting about the boy
who had been raised from the dead.

Then the woman cried out:

β€œThat is my son!
And I am the woman!”

The king was amazed.

He had everything examined
and ordered:

β€œGive her back everything β€”
her house, her land,
and even the harvest of the past years!”

God had not forgotten her.

What He had promised,
He also fulfilled.

πŸ€’ A Sick King

In Aram, King Ben-Hadad was sick.

He heard that Elisha was in Damascus.

So he sent his servant Hazael
with many gifts to Elisha.

Hazael was to ask:

β€œWill I recover from this illness?”

Elisha looked at Hazael for a long time.

Then he said:

β€œTell him: You will recover.
But the Lord has shown me
that he will die.”

Hazael did not understand.

Why this answer?

Then Elisha began to weep.

Hazael was shocked.
β€œWhy is my lord weeping?”

Elisha said:

β€œBecause I know
the harm you will do to Israel.
You will set their cities on fire.
Kill their children.
Bring great disaster.”

Hazael was outraged.

β€œAm I a dog
that I should do such things?”

But Elisha answered:

β€œThe Lord has shown me
that you will become king of Aram.”

πŸ‘‘ A Wrong Decision

Hazael returned
and told the king:

β€œYou will recover.”

But the next day
Hazael took a blanket,
dipped it in water,
and laid it over the king’s face.

The king died.

And Hazael became king.

One decision.
One act.
And everything changed.

God’s word was fulfilled β€”
but Hazael was responsible
for what he did.

πŸ‘‘ Two Kings in Judah

In Judah, Joram became king.
He was married to a daughter of Ahab.

And he did not do
what pleased God.

He followed the bad example
of the kings of Israel.

Yet God did not destroy Judah.

Why?

β€œFor the sake of His servant David,”
it says.

God kept His promise.

Later Ahaziah became king.
He also did what was evil.

He listened to wrong advisers.
And his decisions
also had consequences.

πŸ’š Message for Children Today

God does not forget you β€”
even if years pass.

What He promises,
He keeps.

But your decisions matter.

You can choose:
Honesty or lies.
Faithfulness or wrong paths.
Obedience or pride.

God remains faithful.
But we are responsible for our actions.
