π The King is coming soon β Hope beyond the end
π February 4 β The Power of Temptation and Victory Through Christ
Monthly Theme: The Great Controversy β The Conflict Between Good and Evil
Yearly Theme 2026: βSoon the King Is Coming β Hope Beyond the Endβ
π Central Bible Text of the Day
βFor we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,
but one who has been tempted in every way, just as we areβyet without sin.β
β Hebrews 4:15
π Devotion of the Day
Temptation is the field
on which the great battle of life is fought every day.
Every person, whether strong or weak,
stands under the enemyβs attackβ
who works with cunning and deception.
βBe sober-minded and watchful!
Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion
seeking someone to devour.β
β 1 Peter 5:8
Yet in the midst of this danger, a quiet, victorious truth is heard:
Jesus was temptedβand He overcame.
His victory can become our victory too.
Ellen G. White wrote:
βChrist came to show
that humanity, in the strength of God, can resist temptation.
Every temptation that comes to us,
He Himself has endured and overcome.β
(The Desire of Ages, p. 61)
β¨ The Origin of Temptation
Temptation itself is not sin,
but an invitation to sin.
Satan can only enticeβnot force.
βEach person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.β
β James 1:14
So the tragedy began in the Garden of Eden:
not with an act, but with doubt;
not with open rebellion, but with disobedience in the heart.
Satan watches our weaknesses
and brings temptations
tailored exactly to our character.
But his power ends
where the will surrenders to Christ.
Ellen White explains:
βSatan can capture only the one
who voluntarily places himself under his control.
Every temptation loses its power
when the will stands on Christβs side.β
(The Great Controversy, p. 510)
πΏ JesusβOur Example in the Battle
After His baptism, Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness
to be tempted by the devil (Matthew 4:1β11).
He was hungry, weak, and aloneβ
yet He did not fall.
His weapon was simple and powerful: βIt is written.β
βMan shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.β
β Matthew 4:4
Every time Satan attacked,
Jesus met him with Scriptureβ
not with discussion, not with emotion,
but with the authority of Godβs Word.
Ellen White wrote:
βWhen Christ repelled Satanβs temptations,
He did not do so by a miracle,
but by trusting in the power of the Word of God.
This is the way every person can overcome.β
(The Desire of Ages, p. 96)
That is why the Word of God is not merely required reading,
but a weapon in the battle for the heart.
ποΈ Victory Is Possible
Many Christians believe that temptation inevitably leads to defeat,
but the Bible promises something else:
βGod is faithful,
and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability,
but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape,
that you may be able to endure it.β
β 1 Corinthians 10:13
Christ fights with us and in us.
He gives strength where our strength ends,
and victory where we once fell.
Ellen White encourages:
βNo one has fallen so deeply
that he cannot find victory through Christ.
When the heart opens to heaven,
divine power enters human weakness.β
(Steps to Christ, p. 65)
Victory is not a sudden act,
but a daily walk of trust in God.
π From Fall to Triumph
Every victory over temptation
strengthens character and deepens love for Christ.
Every resistance makes us stronger,
and every stumble can become a step toward humility
when we return to Christ.
βFor the righteous falls seven times and rises again.β
β Proverbs 24:16
Ellen White wrote:
βEvery victory over self,
every temptation overcome,
is a step on the ladder to heaven.
Thus character grows in the strength of the Redeemer.β
(Maranatha, p. 240)
The path of victory is not without conflict,
but it ends in peaceβ
the peace only the Overcomer can give.
π Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ,
You know my weakness and my battles.
You Yourself were tempted;
therefore You understand me.
Strengthen me when I am weak,
teach me to live by the Word,
and help me to face every temptation with Your victory.
Let me stand in Your strength
until the battle is over and Your peace dwells within me.
Amen.
