π 1 Kings Chapter 14 β God Sees Behind the Mask
π When you dress up but donβt want to change
π Introduction
Have you ever tried to hide?
Maybe from a punishment or an uncomfortable truth?
In this story, a king thinks
he can trick God β
by sending his wife disguised.
But God does not only see the outside.
He also knows the heart.
And His answer is clearer than expected.
π The Bible story
King Jeroboam had made many wrong decisions.
He had set up golden calves,
built his own altars,
and led the people away from God.
But then his son became sick β
and suddenly Jeroboam was afraid.
He said to his wife:
βDisguise yourself so no one will recognize you,
and go to the prophet Ahijah in Shiloh.
Ask him what will happen to our son.β
Ahijah was old β and could no longer see.
But God had already spoken to him:
βJeroboamβs wife is coming.
Donβt act as if you donβt know β
tell her what I will tell you.β
π£ Steps in Secret β but God Sees Them
Jeroboamβs wife set out on her journey.
She wore different clothes,
so no one would notice who she was.
When she entered the prophetβs house,
Ahijah called out:
βCome in, wife of Jeroboam!
Why are you pretending to be someone else?
I have a hard message for you.β
She was frightened.
God had recognized her secret immediately.
βοΈ A Serious Message
Ahijah said:
βGo back and tell your husband:
This is what the Lord says:
I took him from among the people,
I made him king β
but he has turned away from Me.
He set up idols,
led the people astray,
and did worse things than many before him.
Therefore his family will not last.β
Then Ahijah said:
βAs soon as you return home,
your child will die.
But he is the only one in your family
whom God will bring home with honor β
because God still found something good in him.β
π’ The Return Home
The woman went back.
As soon as she stepped over the threshold of the house,
her son died β just as the prophet had said.
All Israel mourned for the boy.
He had been kind β
different from many in Jeroboamβs family.
Jeroboam himself ruled for some more years,
but his heart remained far from God.
In the end, his name became a symbol
of how someone can lead people astray.
π£ Summary
Jeroboam wanted to know what would happen to his son β
but he did not truly want to listen to God.
Instead of coming honestly,
he sent his wife to the prophet in disguise.
But God was not fooled.
Ahijah spoke a serious message β
not only about the child,
but about the whole royal family.
This story is sad.
But it shows:
π God sees the heart.
π And He rejoices over anyone
who truly wants to turn back.
π Message for Children Today
You can hide from people β
but not from God.
He knows our thoughts,
our fears, our excuses β
and our wishes.
God is waiting for us
to come to Him honestly and bravely.
Not disguised. Not hiding.
But with an open heart.
π Food for Thought
πΉ Why did Jeroboam think he could trick God?
πΉ Are there situations where you would rather hide what you have done?
πΉ How can you learn to speak honestly with God β even when itβs hard?

π Invitation to 1 Kings Chapter 15
π° Two kingdoms, two paths β who listens to God?
In Israel and Judah, different kings are ruling now.
Some continue with idol worship.
Others try to return to Godβs ways.
In this chapter we meet two kings:
πΈ Abijah, who does not remain faithful.
πΉ And Asa, who does many things right.
Chapter 15 shows:
π What matters is not only the throne β
but who the heart belongs to.
π Teaser for Chapter 15
Abijah is king only for a short time.
He makes many mistakes β
and his heart is not fully with God.
Then his son Asa becomes king in Judah.
And he does many things differently!
He tears down idol altars,
removes false images,
and shows:
π βI want to serve God alone!β
But later Asa also becomes afraid β
and looks for help from people
instead of trusting Godβ¦
Chapter 15 tells about good beginnings,
brave decisions,
and the question:
π How do you stay faithful to God β not only at the start, but for your whole life?
