πBELIEVE HIS PROPHETS | 09.12.2025 | π1 Samuel 1 β God hears the whisper of the heart
π TEASER β 1 SAMUEL
When people want to rule β and God still works
A people in transition. A woman who weeps. A boy who hears Godβs voice.
A nation that demands a king β and a God who continues to write history.
The book of 1 Samuel is the dramatic opening to the era of kings in Israel.
It does not begin with a warrior, but with a woman: Hannah.
Her story gives birth to the prophet Samuel β a man who stands between priests, prophets, and kings.
π How does a people respond when it wants to be like all the other nations?
βοΈ What happens when human power takes priority over Godβs voice?
π₯ And how does God work His sovereign plan β despite human missteps?
Walk with Saul β the king with great potential and a tragic end.
Meet David β the shepherd boy with the heart of a king.
And see how God writes His story not through outward strength, but through inner devotion.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
1 Samuel is not an old history book β it is a mirror:
for leadership, for the posture of the heart, for trust in a God who does not forget those who truly want to serve Him.

π The message of the book of 1 Samuel
The book of 1 Samuel is a dramatic, honest, and deeply spiritual account of transition, calling, and Godβs work in the midst of the chaos of human decisions.
It leads us from the period of the judges into the era of kingship β a turning point in Israelβs history.
It begins with a woman who weeps and ends with a king who falls.
In between stand a child who hears Godβs voice, a king who loses himself, and a shepherd boy who becomes a man after Godβs own heart.

2. Main themes and core messages
π© Calling begins in secret
God calls Samuel as a child β not through power, but in quietness.
π βSpeak, LORD, for your servant is listening.β (1 Samuel 3:10)
Message: Godβs voice is often heard where we become still β not where it is loud.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π© When people want kings
The people cry, βGive us a king!β
God replies, βThey have not rejected you, but Me.β
π 1 Samuel 8:7
Message: God allows human paths β but not without warning and consequences.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π© The fall of Saul
Saul begins with promise, but pride, disobedience, and fear of people lead to his downfall.
Message: Outward strength does not replace spiritual faithfulness.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π© A heart after Godβs own heart
David is not perfect β but he is humble, open, faithful in small things, honest in suffering, devoted in faith.
π βThe LORD does not look at what man looks at β¦ the LORD looks at the heart.β (1 Samuel 16:7)
Message: God chooses not by the worldβs standards β but by the heart.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π© Between power and humility
David is pursued, yet never takes by force what God has promised.
He honors Saul, even when Saul wants to kill him.
Message: True greatness is shown not in victory, but in humility and trust.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
3. The spiritual message for today
π¨ 1. God still speaks β even today
As with Samuel: whoever wants to hear must become still.
In a world full of voices, we need spiritual attentiveness.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π¨ 2. People choose power β God looks for hearts
Our society honors achievement, success, charisma.
But God seeks people who are obedient and humble β like David.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π¨ 3. Not every calling follows a straight path
Samuel, Saul, David β three lives, three callings, three developments.
What matters is not perfection, but the road back to God.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π¨ 4. Grace also reaches the fallen
Saul fails β yet his story still matters.
God rejects β but not without compassion.
Even our detours are not the end.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π¨ 5. Christ β the true King
David is a foreshadowing of Jesus:
A shepherd. Anointed. Despised. Persecuted.
And yet β King in Godβs eyes.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
4. Key verses
π 1 Samuel 3:10 β βSpeak, LORD, for your servant is listening.β
π 1 Samuel 8:7 β βThey have not rejected you, but Me.β
π 1 Samuel 15:22 β βObedience is better than sacrifice.β
π 1 Samuel 16:7 β βMan looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.β
π 1 Samuel 24:7 β βThe LORD forbid that I should lay my hand on the LORDβs anointed.β
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
β Conclusion
The book of 1 Samuel is a call to spiritual maturity.
It shows us:
-
How God calls β even the small and overlooked.
-
How human power structures reach their limits.
-
How crucial heart and attitude truly are.
-
How growth and royal dignity can arise from suffering.
In short:
π 1 Samuel teaches us to listen to Godβs voice, to trust His way β and to look at the heart, not the crown.

π΅ Introduction
The first chapter of the book of 1 Samuel does not begin with a king,
not with a warrior,
not with a prophet.
It begins with a woman β with Hannah.
She is childless.
She is wounded.
And she is deeply faithful.
In a society where fertility was considered a sign of divine blessing, Hannah was seen as βforgottenβ β perhaps even βcursed.β
Yet this chapter shows us: God does not only hear the loud voices β He also hears the silent prayer of a woman standing on the margins.
It is a story of patience, grace, and faith β right in the midst of pain.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π‘ Commentary
At a time when Israel had no king, a personal tragedy unfolds in the house of Elkanah β a devout man with two wives: Peninnah, who has many children, and Hannah, who is barren.
Peninnah mocks Hannah regularly β year after year.
Every time the family travels to the sanctuary in Shiloh, Hannah is reminded of what she lacks: a child.
Although Elkanah loves her and tries to comfort her, he cannot heal her sorrow.
He asks, βAm I not better to you than ten sons?β
But love alone cannot replace what Hannah longs for with all her heart.
In a particularly painful moment β after being humiliated once again β Hannah gets up and goes to the sanctuary. There she begins to pray.
Not loudly, not visibly β but inwardly.
Her lips move, but her voice is not heard.
The old priest Eli misunderstands her. He thinks she is drunk β as many probably had been there before.
But Hannah is not drunk. She is broken β and full of faith.
She explains:
βI have poured out my heart before the LORD.β
This single sentence changes everything.
Eli recognizes her sincerity, her pain β and blesses her in the name of God.
Not long afterward, Hannah becomes pregnant.
She gives birth to a son and names him Samuel, which means: βAsked of God.β
But Hannah does not forget her vow.
As soon as Samuel is weaned, she brings him to the temple in Shiloh β to dedicate him completely to the service of God.
In an act of deepest devotion, she gives back to God what means the most to her.
And where her story began with tears, it ends in worship.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π’ Summary
-
Hannah suffers from barrenness and public humiliation.
-
She brings her pain before God in prayer β honestly, intensely, without words.
-
God hears her prayer and gives her a son.
-
Out of gratitude and obedience, she dedicates Samuel to the Lord β for life.
-
Her personal story becomes the beginning of a spiritual turning point in Israelβs history.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π’ Message for us today
-
God hears β even when you only whisper.
Your prayers donβt have to be perfect or loud β they just need to be honest. -
Calling can grow out of pain.
Hannahβs deepest sorrow becomes the beginning of Samuelβs calling β one of Israelβs greatest prophets. -
True devotion means giving back what is most precious.
Hannah doesnβt give βsomethingβ β she gives what she prayed for the most. -
God works in the unseen.
No miracle happens in front of everyoneβs eyes. No angel appears.
And yet God acts β quietly, powerfully, faithfully. -
Your story is part of Godβs greater plan.
Samuel is not only Hannahβs son β he becomes Godβs instrument in the renewal of the nation.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π¬ Thought for reflection
What if the place that hurts you the most today
is exactly the place where God wants to write His story with you?
Hannahβs tears were not wasted.
Her silence was not ignored.
Her faith was not in vain.
Perhaps today you donβt need to pray loudly β but honestly.
Not be strong immediately β but faithful.
Not understand everything β but remember this:
God hears the heart.

π Sun, stand still! β When faith expects the impossible
The power of prayer and faith in the battle
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π΅ Introduction
One of the most dramatic moments in the book of Joshua is the prayer through which the day was extended.
In the midst of battle, Joshua asks for something unimaginable β and God hears.
This event is not only a miracle of nature, but a testimony of unshakable faith.
What moves a person to pray such a prayer?
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π‘ Commentary
The enemy is fleeing. Yet Joshua realizes that the day is not long enough to prevent their escape into fortified cities.
If the opponents get away, the battle will begin all over again.
In an act of trust, Joshua lifts up his voice:
βSun, stand still over Gibeon!β
And creation obeys.
Time stretches until the work is completed.
This prayer was not an impulsive wish, but the expression of a life deeply rooted in Godβs presence.
Joshua had Godβs promise β yet he acted as though everything depended on him.
He prayed as though everything depended on God.
This balance β between responsibility and dependence β is the secret of spiritual authority.
The Joshua who commands the sun is the same Joshua who once lay face down on the ground in prayer at Gilgal.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π’ Summary
Joshuaβs prayer brings about a unique miracle.
Through the extended day, victory becomes complete.
God acts supernaturally β but only because Joshua meets Him with bold faith and trust.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π’ Message for us today
We often experience Godβs greatness only when we are willing to step beyond our limits β in faith, in prayer, in action.
It is men and women of prayer who experience authority in critical moments.
God honors faith that trusts His promises and is willing to expect the impossible.
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π¬ Thought for reflection
Where in my life is courageous faith needed β and the cry: βLord, intervene!β?
