πŸ“ Introduction

The book of Esther ends with a short but significant chapter. After the Jewish people were saved and the Feast of Purim was established, attention turns to Mordecai. The man who once sat unnoticed at the city gate now holds one of the highest positions in the Persian Empire. The chapter shows how God’s hidden plan has fully reached its goal.

🧡 Commentary

The final chapter of the book contains only a few verses, yet it summarizes the entire development of the story. King Ahasuerus continues to rule over his great empire and strengthens his power.

Special attention, however, is given to Mordecai. After Haman’s downfall, Mordecai rose to become the most important official after the king. His authority is recognized throughout the entire empire.

Yet his greatness is not shown only in his position. Mordecai does not use his influence for personal advantage. Instead, he works for the welfare of his people. He seeks peace, safety, and well-being for the Jews.

In this way, he forms a strong contrast to Haman. While Haman used his power for hatred, pride, and destruction, Mordecai uses his position for the protection and blessing of other people.

For this reason, the book does not end with Esther, although she is the best-known person in the story. The focus is on the result of God’s guidance. The Jewish people have been preserved. The threat has been overcome. People who remained faithful to God are used to serve others.

It is also remarkable that the book of Esther ends without explicitly mentioning God’s name. Nevertheless, His guidance is visible from the first chapter to the last. What began with a royal banquet developed into a story of divine preservation.

Looking back, it becomes clear: Vashti’s removal, Esther’s calling to become queen, Mordecai’s faithfulness, the king’s sleepless night, and Haman’s downfall were not random events. God held the story in His hand.

The ending of the book invites us to recognize God’s work even where it does not appear immediately visible. His plans continue, even when people do not understand them at first.
