🌅 Devotional of the Day
When the Bible speaks about judgment, it repeatedly connects this theme with God’s commandments. For some, this may at first sound strict or burdensome. Yet God’s commandments were not given to crush people. They reveal the character of God and show what a life of love, truth, and faithfulness looks like.
In the judgment it becomes clear that God’s standard is not arbitrary. He does not judge according to human opinion, but according to His eternal truth. His commandments show what love means in practice: love for God and love for our neighbor. That is why Jesus said that all the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
Obedience in the biblical sense is not an attempt to earn salvation. No one is made righteous before God by their works. Our hope rests in Christ alone. Yet whoever loves Christ and has experienced His grace will not remain indifferent to God’s will. Faith leads to a transformed life.
Especially in the light of the judgment, it becomes evident whether our faith consisted only of words or whether it shaped our hearts and our decisions. God’s commandments are not a way to save ourselves, but a mirror that leads us to Christ and a guide for living close to Him.
✨ Commandments as an Expression of Love
Many people see God’s commandments as a restriction. But the Bible presents them as an expression of divine love. They protect life, preserve relationships, and lead human beings into freedom.
Ellen G. White wrote:
“The law of God is a transcript of His character; it reveals His love, purity, and justice.”
(Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 305)
When we understand God’s commandments correctly, we do not see harshness in them, but His loving will for our lives.
🌿 Trust Leads to Obedience
Obedience without trust quickly becomes legalistic. Trust without obedience remains superficial. The two belong together.
Whoever trusts God will learn to follow His ways, even when they do not always seem easy. The obedience of faith grows out of a relationship, not out of fear.
Ellen G. White wrote:
“True obedience comes from the heart. It is the result of love for Christ.”
(The Desire of Ages, p. 668)
This kind of obedience does not make us proud, but grateful.
🕊️ Looking to Christ in the Judgment
When God’s commandments become visible in the judgment as the standard, we must still not look to ourselves. The law shows us our need, but Christ gives us righteousness and strength.
He not only forgives our transgressions, but writes His will in our hearts. In this way, obedience is no longer merely an outward duty, but the expression of a renewed life.

Dear Father in heaven,
thank You for Your commandments, which reveal Your character and Your love.
Help me not to see Your will as a burden, but as the way of life.
Keep me from legalistic thinking and from indifference.
Give me the faith that trusts You and the love that gladly follows You.
Write Your commandments in my heart and prepare me for Your coming.
Amen.
