πŸ“– Central Bible Text for the Day

β€œMercy triumphs over judgment.”
β€” James 2:13

πŸŒ… Devotional of the Day

When we think of judgment, our thoughts often turn to justice. We expect what is right to be rewarded and what is wrong to be condemned. And indeed, God’s judgment is perfectly just. Nothing is overlooked, nothing is evaluated incorrectly. Yet the Bible reveals another wonderful truth: God’s justice is never in opposition to His grace.

Many people see justice and mercy as opposites. Either justice is carried out, or mercy forgives. But in God, both meet in a perfect way. The cross of Jesus is the greatest proof of this. There, guilt was not simply ignored. It was borne. God’s justice was fulfilled, and at the same time His grace was able to save the sinner.

Therefore, for the believer, judgment is not only a demonstration of justice, but also a revelation of divine grace. God is not looking for reasons to lose people. His entire work of redemption shows His desire to save.

From the first promise after the fall to the final invitation in Revelation, one thought runs through the Bible: God wants to draw people to Himself. In the end, judgment reveals how far His love has gone to achieve this goal.

✨ The cross explains judgment

Without the cross, judgment would be frightening. Without the cross, we would have to rely on our own righteousness.

But Jesus took our guilt upon Himself.

Ellen G. White wrote:

β€œAt the cross, justice and mercy, truth and love met.”

(The Desire of Ages, p. 762)

There it became visible that God’s love never works at the expense of His justice, and that His justice never acts without love.

🌿 God’s desire to save

Sometimes people imagine God as someone waiting to find mistakes. However, the Bible shows a Father who looks for opportunities to save.

Jesus told parables about the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son. In each of these pictures, we see a God who seeks, waits, and restores.

Ellen G. White wrote:

β€œHeaven has used every resource to save humanity.”

(Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 196)

This truth changes the way we view judgment.

πŸ•ŠοΈ Living in the certainty of grace

Whoever understands God’s grace does not live carelessly. On the contrary: gratitude changes the heart more deeply than fear ever could.

We do not follow Christ in order to earn His love. We follow Him because we have already received His love.

The judgment will show how powerful this grace is and how perfectly God’s plan of redemption will be fulfilled.

πŸ™ Prayer

Dear Father in heaven,

thank You for Your wonderful grace.

Thank You that You are not only just, but also full of love and mercy.

Help me to understand more deeply what Jesus has done for me.

Keep me from trusting in my own righteousness.

Let me live daily from Your grace and pass this grace on to others.

Amen.
