π Daily Bible Reading: π Esther 6
π The Great Turnaround
β¨ When God changes history during a sleepless night
π Read online here
π Introduction
While Haman is already planning Mordecaiβs execution, God begins to intervene in a surprising way. No army appears, no prophet steps forward, and no miracle takes place before the eyes of the people. Instead, everything begins with the kingβs sleepless night. Esther chapter 6 shows impressively how God can use even the smallest events to fulfill His plans.

𧡠Commentary
On the very night when Haman prepares his gallows for Mordecai, King Ahasuerus cannot sleep. To pass the time, he has the royal chronicles read to him.
During the reading, they come across the report about Mordecai. It is written there how he had once uncovered a conspiracy against the king and thereby saved his life.
The king is surprised and asks what reward Mordecai had received for this deed. To his astonishment, he learns that nothing had been done for him until then.
At that very moment, Haman enters the outer court of the palace. He has come to obtain permission for Mordecaiβs execution. But before he can present his request, the king asks him a question.
Ahasuerus asks: βWhat should be done for the man whom the king especially wishes to honor?β
Haman is convinced that the king can only be referring to him. Filled with pride, he designs an extraordinary program of honor. The honored man should wear royal garments, ride on the kingβs horse, and be led publicly through the city.
But then comes the kingβs surprising answer. Haman must do all of this for Mordecai.
For Haman, this must have been a terrible shock. The man he wants to have killed is now to be personally honored by him.
Despite his inner resistance, he has no choice. He clothes Mordecai in royal garments, places him on the kingβs horse, and leads him through the city. As he does so, he must publicly proclaim that this is the honor given to the man whom the king wishes to distinguish.
After the honor is given, Mordecai calmly returns to his place. Haman, however, hurries home in shame. There, his wife and friends tell him something remarkable. They recognize that the tide is beginning to turn against him and warn him about the events to come.
While they are still speaking, the kingβs servants arrive to bring Haman to Estherβs second banquet. Without knowing it, he is heading toward the decisive turning point of his life.
The chapter shows impressively that God does not need great signs in order to change history. A sleepless night, a forgotten document, and the right moment are enough to completely turn the course of events.
