π± GROWING IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
π Lesson 8: Having Faith
π 8.5 The Faith of Jesus
The strongest faith is the faith that Jesus Himself lived perfectly
π 1. Introduction β Our Faith and Jesusβ Faith
When we think of faith,
we often think of our own faith:
- How strong am I?
- Do I trust enough?
- Why do I sometimes doubt?
But Revelation 14:12 speaks of:
π βthe faith of Jesus.β
This means:
Not only our faith is important,
but above all Jesusβ own perfect faith.
He is the foundation of our hope.
π 2. The Biblical Foundation β Revelation 14:12
Revelation 14:12 describes Godβs people as those
who:
- keep Godβs commandments
- and have the faith of Jesus
Law and gospel belong together.
Obedience without Jesus becomes legalistic.
Faith without surrender remains superficial.
Therefore, this message shows:
π True discipleship combines love for Godβs will with trust in Jesus.
π 3. Connection to Today
Many people today experience faith as:
- demanding
- uncertain
- unstable
Some feel spiritually weak
because they see their own mistakes and limitations.
That is precisely why the βfaith of Jesusβ is so important.
Our hope does not rest first in the strength of our faith,
but in the perfection of Jesus.
π He remains faithful,
even when our trust sometimes becomes weak.
π‘ 4. Central Message of the Lesson
π The faith of Jesus means trusting Jesus completely and allowing His trust in the Father to become the center of our lives.
βοΈ 5. Theological Focus
At the center of this lesson is the meaning of the expression:
π βthe faith of Jesus.β
This expression has deep spiritual meaning.
It describes not only faith in Jesus,
but also the faith that Jesus Himself lived.
Jesus trusted the Father completely:
- in ministry
- in suffering
- in temptation
- even on the cross
This becomes especially clear in Matthew 26:36β42 in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus knew
that suffering and death lay ahead of Him.
His prayer reveals the deepest struggle of faith:
π βNot as I will, but as You will.β
Here we see:
Jesusβ faith was complete surrender to the Father,
even under the greatest inner pressure.
This is decisive:
Jesus trusted God not only
when everything was easy,
but especially in the darkest moment.
The lesson also recalls the history of the Advent movement.
In the 1890s, it was increasingly recognized
that law and gospel belong inseparably together.
Ellen White emphasized:
π The law must never be proclaimed without Christ.
Because:
A person is not saved by their own performance,
but by Godβs grace.
Obedience is the fruit of relationship with Jesus β
not the way to salvation.
The βfaith of Jesusβ therefore means:
- trusting Jesus daily
- keeping Him at the center
- allowing His power to work in oneβs own life
Hebrews 11 shows many heroes of faith,
but none had faith like Jesus.
Only Jesus trusted perfectly.
Therefore He is:
π the Author and Finisher of our faith.
Theologically decisive is this:
The Christian does not live from personal spiritual strength,
but from union with Christ.
Jesusβ faithfulness carries the believer.
π 6. The Faith of Jesus in the Christianβs Daily Life
The βfaith of Jesusβ is not merely a theological term.
It should become visible practically in life.
This means:
- trusting God even in suffering
- holding on to Him in prayer
- obeying His Word
- not giving up
- remaining with Jesus even in uncertainty
Many people try
to become spiritually strong through their own effort.
But genuine faith does not grow first through human performance,
but through daily fellowship with Christ.
The closer we come to Jesus,
the more His character shapes our thinking and actions.
The lesson also reminds us:
Sometimes our own faith is weak.
But Jesus remains worthy and faithful.
Revelation 5 describes Him as the Lamb
who is worthy.
Therefore we may have hope:
π Even weak human faith can become strong
when it holds on to Christ.
Hebrews 11:6 thereby becomes a personal prayer:
- seek God
- trust Him
- build on His faithfulness
π§ 7. Application in Daily Life
This lesson becomes practical through concrete steps:
- consciously seek Jesus daily
- place Godβs will above your own
- speak honestly with God in prayer
- study Jesusβ life
- do not trust in your own strength
- hold on to Godβs faithfulness in difficult times
β 8. Reflection Question
Do I trust more in my own spiritual strength β or in the perfect faith of Jesus?
π 9. Final Thought
Our faith sometimes becomes weak.
Jesusβ faith never does.
Because:
π The Christianβs greatest hope does not lie in the strength of their faith, but in the faithfulness of Jesus Christ.
