βMy little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father: Jesus Christ the righteous.β
β 1 John 2:1
π Devotional of the Day
When we think about the heavenly judgment, an important question inevitably arises: Who can stand before a holy and righteous God? If the judgment were based solely on our own righteousness, no human being would have hope. The Bible makes it clear that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Yet precisely here the beauty of the gospel is revealed.
In the heavenly judgment, we do not stand alone. Jesus Christ is not only our Redeemer on the cross, but also our Advocate in heaven. The One who gave His life for us now stands before the Father on our behalf. Therefore, the judgment is not the encounter of a guilty person with a distant judge, but the encounter of a redeemed person with his Savior.
This truth changes everything. Our hope does not rest on our past, our achievements, or our ability to be perfect. Our hope rests on Christ. He knows our weaknesses and our struggles. He knows every failure. And yet He represents those who have placed their trust in Him.
β¨ An Advocate Who Understands Us
Jesus does not represent us from a distance. He became human, lived under the same challenges as we do, and knows the burdens of human life.
That is why He does not meet us with harshness, but with compassion.
Ellen G. White wrote:
βChrist knows every soul, its struggles and its temptations. He knows how to help those who are tempted.β
(The Desire of Ages, p. 480)
When we come to Him, we do not meet an uninvolved judge, but a loving Advocate.
πΏ Our Security Is in Christ
Many Christians live with the concern of whether they will stand in the end. But the Bible turns our eyes away from ourselves and toward Jesus.
In the judgment, the foundation of our hope is not our perfection, but His perfect righteousness.
Ellen G. White wrote:
βThe righteousness of Christ takes the place of human insufficiency and is accepted on behalf of the believer.β
(The Great Controversy, p. 484)
This does not mean that our life is meaningless. But our salvation is founded on Christ alone.
ποΈ Coming Before God with Confidence
Because Jesus is our Advocate, we may come before God with confidence. We do not need to hide. We may confess our mistakes and accept His forgiveness.
Heaven is not looking for a reason to reject us. Heaven is working to make visible the redemption that Christ has purchased for us.
π Prayer
Dear Father in heaven,
thank You that I am not alone in the judgment.
Thank You for Jesus Christ, my Advocate and Redeemer.
When I look at my weaknesses, remind me that my hope is in Him.
Help me to trust daily in His grace and to live close to Him.
Give me peace and assurance in knowing that Jesus intercedes for me.
Amen.
