πŸ“– June 2 – The Opened Books: God Knows Our Life

Monthly theme: The Heavenly Judgment – Justice and Grace
2026 yearly theme: β€œSoon the King Is Coming – Hope Beyond the End”

πŸ“– Central Bible Text of the Day

β€œThe judgment was set, and the books were opened.”
β€” Daniel 7:10

πŸŒ… Devotional of the Day

The image of opened books in the heavenly judgment may at first seem mysterious to many people. Why are there books in heaven? Does God need to look something up in order to know something about us? Of course not. God knows every person completely. He knows our thoughts, our decisions, our struggles, and our motives better than we know ourselves.

The books in the judgment do not serve to inform God, but to make His justice visible before the entire universe. God’s decisions are never arbitrary. Everything happens transparently, justly, and understandably. The judgment reveals that God’s actions are always founded on truth and love.

For many people, the thought that their whole life lies open before God creates a feeling of uneasiness. Yet for the believer, this very truth contains great comfort. God knows not only our mistakes. He also knows our tears, our silent prayers, our struggles against temptation, and every decision to remain faithful to Him.

People often see only the outward appearance. God sees the heart. Therefore, His judgment will always be more righteous than any human judgment.

✨ God Sees the Whole Picture

We often experience that people are misunderstood. Good intentions are misinterpreted, faithful service goes unnoticed, and some burdens are carried by a person all alone.

In the heavenly judgment, nothing remains hidden.

Ellen G. White wrote:

β€œEvery act, every word, and every thought is revealed before God. Nothing remains hidden from His sight.”

(The Great Controversy, p. 482)

This may sound solemn at first. But for those who trust in Christ, it is a source of comfort. God knows the whole story of our life.

🌿 The Book of Life

Besides the books of deeds, the Bible speaks of the β€œBook of Life.” There are written the names of those who have placed their trust in Christ.

Our hope does not rest on our life having been flawless, but on our name being written in the Book of Life by God’s grace.

Ellen G. White wrote:

β€œThe name of every sincere believer is recorded in the Book of Life.”

(Maranatha, p. 93)

This truth gives assurance. The center of the judgment is not our performance, but God’s work of redemption.

πŸ•ŠοΈ Living Before God’s Face

If God knows our life, we may be honest before Him. We do not need to hide anything or pretend anything. He already knows everything.

For this very reason, He invites us to come to Him daily. His grace is greater than our past, and His love reaches deeper than our failure.

πŸ™ Prayer

Dear Father in heaven,

thank You that You know me completely.

You see not only my mistakes, but also my struggles, my longing for You, and my trust in Your grace.

Help me to live openly and honestly before You.

Thank You that my hope does not rest on my own righteousness, but on Jesus Christ.

Let me live each day in this assurance.

Amen.
