π May 16 β Living in Gratitude: A Response to Grace
Monthly Theme: The Cross and the Second Coming β The Victory of Love
Yearly Theme 2026: βThe King Is Coming Soon β Hope Beyond the Endβ
π Central Bible Verse of the Day
βGive thanks in all circumstances; for this is Godβs will for you in Christ Jesus.β
β 1 Thessalonians 5:18
π Devotional of the Day
Godβs grace calls forth a response. Whoever recognizes what Christ accomplished on the cross cannot remain indifferent. Gratitude grows where we begin to understand how much has been given to us.
Gratitude is more than a feeling. It is an attitude of the heart that shapes an entire life. It changes how we look at what we have and how we deal with what comes our way. A grateful heart does not remain focused on itself but turns its eyes toward God.
We often tend to focus on what we lack. Challenges, worries, or unfulfilled desires can narrow our perspective. But the gospel invites us to adopt a different perspective: to look at what God has already done.
β¨ Gratitude as the Fruit of Grace
Gratitude does not arise from outward circumstances but from experiencing Godβs grace. It grows when we realize that we have received more than we could ever deserve.
Ellen G. White wrote:
βA grateful heart is the natural response to the grace of God received.β
(Steps to Christ, p. 102)
This attitude brings joy and peace into life.
πΏ Gratitude in Daily Life
Gratitude is not only expressed in great moments but also in everyday life. It becomes visible in small things: in a conscious prayer, in a kind word, or in the ability to keep trusting even during difficult times.
It does not mean ignoring problems, but seeing them in the light of Godβs faithfulness.
Ellen G. White wrote:
βWhoever thanks God even in trials shows that their trust does not depend on circumstances.β
(Maranatha, p. 95)
ποΈ A Life That Honors God
A grateful life honors God. It acknowledges that every good thing comes from Him. It does not live from entitlement, but from grace.
This attitude also changes the way we relate to others. Whoever is grateful becomes more generous, patient, and open-hearted.
π Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
thank You for Your grace and for everything You give me.
Help me not to focus on what I lack,
but on what I have in You.
Form within me a grateful heart
and let this gratitude shape my life.
Help me recognize Your goodness
and share it with others.
Amen.
