Annual theme 2026: β€œThe King Is Coming Soon – Hope Beyond the End”

πŸ“– Central Bible Text of the Day

β€œBut rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
β€” Luke 10:20

πŸŒ… Devotional of the Day

Among the images the Bible uses for judgment, the β€œbook of life” is one of the most beautiful and hope-filled. While many people, when thinking about judgment, first think of guilt and accountability, God directs our attention to something different: belonging to Him.

Jesus told His disciples that they should not rejoice primarily over their successes, but because their names are written in heaven. In this way, He made clear where a Christian’s true security lies. Not in what we accomplish, but in the fact that we belong to Christ.

The book of life is a symbol of this relationship. It reminds us that God knows His children. In a world where people are often overlooked, forgotten, or misunderstood, it is a wonderful thought that our name is known before God.

When the Bible speaks of judgment, it is not about an anonymous crowd. God knows each person personally. He knows our story, our struggles, our tears, and our hopes. No life is meaningless to Him.

✨ Known by God

Many people seek recognition. They want to be seen, understood, and accepted. But no human recognition can replace what God gives.

The Creator of the universe knows every person by name.

Ellen G. White wrote:

β€œEvery name is clearly before the eyes of the Lord; none of His faithful followers will be forgotten.”

(The Great Controversy, p. 483)

This certainty brings comfort in times of loneliness and uncertainty.

🌿 The Foundation of Our Hope

The book of life reminds us that salvation is always founded on God’s grace. No one writes their own name into it. No one earns their place through good works.

Our hope rests in Jesus Christ alone.

When He died on the cross, He opened the way for people to receive forgiveness and eternal life. Whoever trusts in Him may know that their life is secure in God’s hands.

Ellen G. White wrote:

β€œThe names of all who have truly repented and believed in Christ are recorded in the book of life.”

(Maranatha, p. 93)

πŸ•ŠοΈ Living with This Certainty

The certainty of being known by God changes life. It gives peace. We do not have to constantly fight for our acceptance. We may live from our relationship with Christ.

This does not mean indifference, but gratitude. Whoever knows that their name is written in heaven will desire to follow their Redeemer faithfully.

πŸ™ Prayer

Dear Father in heaven,

thank You that You know me and love me.

Thank You that my hope does not rest on my achievements, but on Your grace.

Help me to live each day with the certainty that I belong to You.

Keep my heart connected to Christ and give me peace in Your salvation.

Let my life be a testimony of Your love.

Amen.

πŸ’ Thought for the Day

The greatest security of a Christian is not that they know God, but that God knows them.

πŸ’‘ Personal Application

  1. Read Luke 10:17–20.
Why does Jesus place the emphasis on the names written in heaven?
  2. Pray: β€œLord, thank You that I may belong to You.”
  3. Practical: Consciously remember today that your worth is not determined by people, but by God’s love.

🌺 Closing Verse

β€œHe who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life.”
