🌱 GROWING IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

πŸ—£οΈ Lesson 12: Share Him

πŸ“˜ 12.5 Bring Them Back

Leading people to God through love, prayer, and example

πŸ“– 1. Introduction

When a loved one distances themselves from God, we often feel helpless. We want them to return, but we do not know how we can help. Sometimes we react with worry, disappointment, or frustration. But the Bible shows that God gives up on no one. He seeks people patiently and lovingly, even when they have moved far away from Him. Therefore, we may keep hope alive and work together with Him.

πŸ“œ 2. The Biblical Foundation

Zechariah 10 describes God’s desire to gather His scattered people again and bring them home. Again and again God emphasizes:

β€œI will strengthen them in the LORD.” (Zech. 10:12)

Jesus also showed this principle with Peter. Although Peter failed and denied Jesus, Jesus did not give up on him. He prayed for him:

β€œI have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail.” (Luke 22:32)

Later, Jesus restored Peter and gave him a new mission (John 21:15–17).

🌍 3. Connection to Today’s World

Many Christians carry the burden for children, spouses, friends, or relatives who have lost their faith. Often we want to control the situation or find quick solutions. But spiritual change rarely happens through pressure. Far more often, God uses the quiet power of prayer, patience, and a credible Christian life. Especially people who have distanced themselves from God often observe very closely whether our faith is genuine.

πŸ’‘ 4. Central Message of the Lesson

πŸ‘‰ God brings people back through His love. We may be instruments of His grace, patience, and hope.

✝️ 5. Theological Focus

An important truth of this lesson is that the salvation of a person is ultimately God’s work. We cannot convert anyone. We cannot force anyone to love God or follow Him. This task belongs to the Holy Spirit alone.

Nevertheless, God invites us to take part in His work.

Here it becomes clear that prayer plays a decisive role. The example of Peter shows this especially impressively. Even before Peter failed, Jesus had already prayed for him. Although Peter fell deeply, his faith was not completely destroyed.

This shows:

  • God sees the future.
  • God is already working before we recognize anything.
  • God’s grace reaches further than human failure.

Furthermore, this lesson reveals the nature of God. When people distance themselves from Him, He does not respond with rejection or indifference. He remains the seeking Shepherd who wants to bring lost sheep home.

That is why we too should learn to see people through God’s eyes. Instead of reducing them to their mistakes, we may view them as people loved by God and for whom Christ died.

🌟 6. Spiritual Deepening

It is especially important to recognize that our personal life is often the strongest witness for a person who has gone astray.

Many people may no longer listen to sermons.

They may not read Christian books.

They may no longer attend church.

But they observe us.

They see:

  • how we deal with difficulties,
  • our patience,
  • our willingness to forgive,
  • our love,
  • our hope.

This is exactly why the lesson emphasizes that we should live out of the fullness of our relationship with Christ.

If our heart is filled with bitterness, disappointment, or accusations, this will shape our relationships. But if our heart is filled with God’s love, we can respond differently even in difficult situations.

This does not mean that we approve of everything or ignore sin.

Rather, it means that we treat people with the same patience that God shows us.

Ephesians 3:17–19 describes this love as something immeasurable:

  • its breadth,
  • its length,
  • its height,
  • its depth.

Whoever experiences this love personally can also pass it on.

Especially family members who have distanced themselves from God often do not need more discussions. They need people who continue to show them love, acceptance, and hope.

Sometimes our prayer over many years will be the most important missionary work.

Sometimes our quiet example will accomplish more than many words.

And sometimes God will work at a time we never would have expected.

Therefore, we may hope even when we see no immediate results.

God’s love often works for a long time in hidden ways.

πŸ”§ 7. Application in Everyday Life

Practical steps:

  • Pray regularly and specifically for people who have distanced themselves.
  • Ask God to replace negative feelings with His love.
  • Avoid constant criticism and accusations.
  • Show interest and appreciation regardless of decisions.
  • Trust that God continues to work on their hearts.

❓ 8. Reflection Question

For which person does God want to encourage me today anew to prayer, patience, and deeper love?

🌟 9. Closing Thought

God has given up on no one whom He loves. Therefore, we too must not lose hope. Our prayers, our love, and our example can become instruments in God’s hand to lead people closer to Him again. What seems impossible to us is still possible for God.

β€œThat Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, and that you, being rooted and grounded in love…” (Eph. 3:17) 🀲❀️✨
