Where God’s miracles grow big – for little and big children

πŸ§±πŸ“£ Judges 12 – When words can build bridges … or walls

πŸ€πŸ—£οΈ About conflict, courage, and three new judges

🟠 Introduction

Sometimes something sad happens: people who actually belong together start to argue. That’s exactly what happens in the book of Judges, chapter 12. But in the middle of the conflict, God shows again: He continues His storyβ€”even when people make mistakes.
In this story, children learn how important it is to listen to God, not to anger.

πŸ“– The Bible story

βš”οΈπŸ˜  An argument begins

After Jephthah had saved Israel in the previous chapter, something unexpected happened. Another part of the people, the Ephraimites, became angry.
They came to Jephthah and said:
β€œWhy didn’t you take us with you when you went to fight? We’re offended!”

They were so angry that they even threatened to burn down Jephthah’s house! πŸ”₯😳

Jephthah was shocked, but he answered calmly:
β€œI called youβ€”you did not come. I had to act, or we would have been lost.”

But Ephraim didn’t listen.
The anger was like a fire that kept getting bigger. πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

βš”οΈ A sad battle

The argument between brothers became so great that words suddenly turned into weapons 😒. Israel fought against Israel.
That is one of the saddest scenes in the book of Judges.

The battle was harsh.
Jephthah’s men wonβ€”but it hurt.
No one really wanted to fight against their own people.

The conflict could have been prevented,
if the people had gone to God firstβ€”and talked with each other.

πŸŒ‰ A strange wordβ€”and a sad ending

Part of the story feels to children almost like a scene from a movie.

Jephthah’s men stood at the Jordan River, where the Ephraimites wanted to flee.
But the two groups spoke differently.

So Jephthah’s men said:
β€œSay the word β€˜Shibboleth’.”

The Ephraimites couldn’t pronounce the word correctly.
Their tongue turned it into:
β€œSibboleth.”

And so Jephthah’s men knew who was friend and who was enemy.

Many people died that dayβ€”and all because of an argument that never needed to happen. πŸ˜”

πŸ‘‘ Three new judges

But the book doesn’t end only sadly.

After Jephthah came three new judges, and each led the land for a while:

🟀 1. Ibzan
βœ” He had many children
βœ” He arranged weddings and was a peaceful man πŸŽ‰

βšͺ 2. Elon
βœ” He was a quiet judge
βœ” Under him Israel had peace 🀍

🟑 3. Abdon
βœ” He had many sons and grandsons
βœ” They rode on 70 donkeysβ€”like a royal parade 🐴🐴🐴
βœ” He was a just and kind leader

These three judges show:
God never leaves His people alone, no matter how difficult the time is.

🟣 Summary

Israel argued with itselfβ€”and it brought a lot of suffering.
But God continued to lead His people and gave new judges so that peace could return.

πŸ’š Message for us today

πŸ‘‰ Arguments make hearts heavyβ€”and can break a lot of things.
πŸ‘‰ God wants us to talk, listen, and forgive.
πŸ‘‰ Peace often begins with just one brave sentence:
β€œLet’s talk.”
πŸ‘‰ Even when hard things happen: God keeps leading.

πŸ’ Thoughts to reflect on

⭐ Have you ever argued and later realized it wasn’t necessary?
⭐ How could you make peace todayβ€”maybe with a kind word?
⭐ Do you want to ask God to help you forgive faster?
