🧡 Commentary

Job begins with an open lament. He tells God that he loathes his life and that he no longer wants to hold back his bitterness. Instead of hiding his feelings, he brings them honestly before his Creator.

He asks God directly why He accuses him and why it seems to please Him to see him suffer. Job cannot reconcile God’s actions with his previous experience of God’s goodness.

Then Job reminds God that He Himself created him. With powerful images, he describes how God formed him β€” like a potter shaping clay and like an artist forming his work. God gave him life, preserved him, and sustained him up to this point.

Precisely for this reason, Job does not understand his situation. Why would the Creator now destroy what He Himself had created so carefully? To Job, his suffering seems to stand in contradiction to God’s care.

Job does acknowledge God’s omniscience. He knows that God sees every one of his actions and that nothing is hidden from Him. Yet he feels treated as though he were guilty, even though he is not aware of any hidden sin.

In the end, Job asks God to grant him at least a little rest before his life comes to an end. He describes death as a dark land full of gloom, into which every human being must eventually go.

This chapter reveals the depth of Job’s inner struggle. He does not lose faith in God, but he no longer understands God’s ways at all. Nevertheless, he continues speaking with God. Precisely in this, his faith is revealed: in his pain, he does not turn away from God, but turns toward Him.

Job chapter 10 reminds us that God knows our deepest questions and does not reject our laments. He invites us, even in times of darkness, to hold fast to our relationship with Him.
