π± GROWING IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
π Lesson 13: Into Eternity
π 13.4 Follow the Lamb
The greatest joy of eternity: being with Jesus forever
π 1. Introduction
When Christians think about heaven, they look forward to many wonderful things: no more suffering, no more sickness, no more tears, and no more fear. Some look forward to being reunited with loved ones, while others look forward to the beauty of the new earth. All these hopes are valid. But the Bible makes it clear that the greatest joy of eternity will not be a place or an experience. The greatest joy will be Jesus Himself. Heaven is heaven because Jesus is there.
π 2. The Biblical Foundation
John describes the redeemed:
βThese are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes.β (Rev. 14:4)
We also read:
βFor the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters.β (Rev. 7:17)
Jesus is presented as the βLamb of Godβ (John 1:29), who sacrificed His life for the redemption of humanity. At the same time, He is the Good Shepherd who leads and cares for His sheep.
π 3. Connection to Our Time
Many people are searching for security, direction, and meaning. In a world full of uncertainty, it is often difficult to know which path to follow. Christians also experience times of confusion, doubt, or discouragement. Especially then, this lesson reminds us that we have a Shepherd who knows us and leads us. Whoever learns to follow Jesus today will also find joy in being near Him throughout eternity.
π‘ 4. Central Message of the Lesson
π The redeemed follow the Lamb in eternity because they have already learned here on earth to trust Him and follow Him.
βοΈ 5. Theological Focus
Revelation deliberately uses the image of the Lamb for Jesus. A lamb reminds us of sacrifice, gentleness, and surrender. Jesus became the sacrificial Lamb for the sins of the world and carried humanityβs guilt on the cross.
Yet the Lamb is also King.
In Revelation, the Lamb sits on the throne.
He reigns.
He leads.
He saves.
This reveals a central truth of the gospel: The One who sacrificed Himself for us is the same One who holds authority over the universe.
The redeemed are identified by the fact that they follow the Lamb.
Not occasionally.
Not only when it is convenient.
But βwherever He goes.β
Following Christ therefore means more than agreeing with certain beliefs. It means trust, surrender, and obedience to Christ.
The Second Coming and eternity are not isolated events. They are the fulfillment of a relationship that begins already today. Whoever looks forward to heaven is ultimately looking forward to deeper fellowship with Jesus.
π 6. Spiritual Deepening
The Bible describes Jesus both as the Lamb and as the Shepherd. At first glance, this may seem unusual.
But precisely in this lies a beautiful truth.
The Lamb who died for us will also be our Shepherd.
The One who bore the nails will lead us to the fountains of life.
The One who saw our tears will wipe them away.
The One who accompanied us through the storms of this life will also lead us through the gates of eternity.
Often we focus on the blessings of heaven:
- no pain,
- no death,
- no sickness,
- no sorrow.
But Revelation 7 directs our eyes to something even greater.
Jesus Himself will be there.
The redeemed will not only live in a perfect world. They will live in the immediate presence of their Redeemer.
That is why Revelation 22:4 says:
βThey shall see His face.β
This is the fulfillment of every longing of the human heart.
Since Eden, fellowship with God has been broken.
Since then, God has been seeking humanity.
In Jesus, the way back was opened.
And in eternity, fellowship will be fully restored.
The fact that Godβs name is written on the foreheads of the redeemed means more than an outward sign. It shows that their thoughts, their character, and their love are fully directed toward God.
They belong to Him.
They love Him.
They trust Him.
That is why they follow the Lamb with joy.
π§ 7. Application in Daily Life
Practical steps:
- Ask yourself daily: βAm I living my life under Jesusβ guidance?β
- Spend intentional time with Christ in prayer and Bible study.
- Trust Jesus even when you do not immediately understand His way.
- Align your decisions with His will.
- Nurture your relationship with the Shepherd whom you will one day follow for all eternity.
β 8. Reflection Question
Do I follow Jesus only when His way matches my ideas, or do I trust Him also in difficult times?
π 9. Closing Thought
The greatest joy of heaven will not be the beauty of the new earth, but the presence of Jesus. The Lamb who died for us will lead us forever. Whoever learns today to trust and follow Him is preparing for eternal fellowship with Him.
βThese are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes.β (Revelation 14:4)
