π― Core Message
The body does not seek change β it seeks familiarity.
βοΈ Explanation
People often assume that they can change as soon as they truly want to.
But the body works according to a different principle:
it prefers what is familiar.
Familiar states β even if they are not ideal β offer a sense of predictability. And for the nervous system, predictability means safety.
That is why certain reactions, thoughts, and behaviors are repeated. Not because they are consciously chosen β but because they are anchored in the system.
This means:
The body does not decide between βgoodβ and βbadβ.
It decides between βfamiliarβ and βunfamiliarβ.
π Did you know?
Even stressful states can feel βnormalβ if they have existed for long enough.
π¬ Scientific insight
Repeated experiences shape neural connections in the brain β a process known as neuroplasticity.
The more often a certain pattern is activated, the more stable it becomes. At the same time, the nervous system tries to work in an energy-efficient way by preferring familiar reaction pathways.
Hormonal and autonomic processes also adapt to these patterns. This is how stable states arise β regardless of whether they are beneficial.
Research findings, including those from the National Institutes of Health, show that behavior change is not only a conscious decision, but requires a reorganization of existing neural networks.
The body does not repeat what is right.
It repeats what is familiar.
