π 1 Kings Chapter 18 β Elijah on Mount Carmel
π₯ Who is the true God
π Introduction
In Israel, many people no longer believe in the Lord.
They follow Baal, a false god,
because King Ahab and Queen Jezebel have taught them to do so.
But one man holds on to the true God: Elijah.
And he is ready to risk everything β
so that the people will recognize again
who the one, living God really is.
π The Bible story
For three years, it had not rained in Israel.
The rivers had dried up,
the fields were withered,
and the people were hungry.
King Ahab was furious β
and searched for Elijah everywhere.
Because Elijah had said there would be no rain
until God allowed it again.
One day God said to Elijah:
βGo and present yourself to Ahab.
I will soon send rain again.β
Elijah set out.
He met Ahab β
and Ahab immediately shouted:
βYou are the one who is bringing trouble on Israel!β
But Elijah answered bravely:
βItβs not my fault β
itβs you and your house!
You have abandoned the Lord and served Baal.β
Then Elijah challenged him:
βBring all the people to Mount Carmel.
Also the 450 prophets of Baal.
We will see who the true God is!β
ποΈ The Great Duel on the Mountain
On Mount Carmel, many people gathered.
Elijah stood before the crowd and called out:
βHow long will you keep limping between two opinions?
If the Lord is God β follow Him!
If Baal is God β follow him!β
But the people said nothing.
They just waited.
Then Elijah suggested something:
βLet the prophets of Baal build an altar
and place a sacrifice on it β
but no fire!
I will do the same.β
βThen we will pray.
The God who answers with fire β
He is the true God!β
The people agreed:
βThat is good.β
π―οΈ The Prophets of Baal Pray
The 450 prophets began in the morning.
They shouted:
βBaal, answer us!β
They danced, screamed,
jumped around the altar β
but nothing happened.
Hours passed.
At noon Elijah called out:
βShout louder! Maybe your god is sleeping.
Or maybe heβs away on a trip!β
The prophets screamed even more.
They cut themselves with knives.
But: No answer. No fire. Not a sound.
π Elijah Prays to the Lo
Now it was Elijahβs turn.
He built an altar with twelve stones β
one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel.
Then he placed the wood on it,
and the sacrifice.
But then he did something astonishing:
He had a lot of water poured over everything β
so much that the trench all around was filled!
Then he prayed:
βLord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel β
show today that You are God in Israel
and that I am Your servant.β
And immediately it happened:
π₯ Fire from heaven fell down!
It burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones β
and even the water in the trench!
π² The People Recognize God
When the people saw this,
they all fell to the ground and cried out:
βThe Lord is God!
The Lord alone is God!β
The prophets of Baal were removed.
And Elijah said to Ahab:
βGo β the rain is coming!β
And truly:
soon dark clouds gathered.
After three years, rain finally came again.
π£ Summary
Elijah bravely steps before the whole nation
and shows that only the Lord is the true God.
The prophets of Baal cry out in vain β
but God answers with fire.
The people recognize their mistake
and confess:
π βThe Lord is the true God!β
π Message for Kids Today
Even today, there are many voices
that try to lead people away from God.
But God is looking for people like Elijah β
who stand up bravely for what is right,
even if they stand alone.
You donβt have to be loud or famous β
but you can be faithful.
And God can do great things through you.

π Invitation to 1 Kings Chapter 19
πͺοΈ God isnβt only loud β He also speaks softly
Elijah has just experienced fire falling from heaven.
A huge miracle!
Everyone recognized that God is the true Lord.
But suddenly Elijah is afraid.
Why?
Because Queen Jezebel threatens him.
He runs away β far into the wilderness.
In chapter 19 we discover:
π‘ Even brave people can become exhausted.
But God meets them not with lightning and thunder β
but very gently, with love and care.
π Teaser for Chapter 19
Elijah runs. He just wants to get away.
Heβs had enough. He even wants to die.
But God does not leave him alone.
ποΈ An angel brings him water and bread.
Then God sends him on a journey β
40 days long, to Mount Horeb.
There Elijah meets God.
But not in windstorm, earthquake, or fire.
Instead, in a gentle whisper.
God shows:
π βI am here β even when you donβt hear Me loudly.β
And He gives Elijah a new mission.
A chapter about fear, exhaustion β
and Godβs gentle, faithful closeness.
