๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ LESSONS OF FAITH FROM JOSHUA
โ›ช Lesson 12 : God Is Faithful!

๐Ÿ“˜ 12.6 Summary
โœจ Godโ€™s faithfulness is certain โ€“ our response matters

๐ŸŸฆ Introduction

At the end of the book of Joshua there is no triumphal march, but an honest, deeply spiritual reflection. Everything God had promised has come to pass โ€” not through human achievement, but through divine faithfulness. At the same time, Joshua looks toward the future: Will Israel remain in the covenant? Will it hold fast to God?

These questions concern us today as well. Godโ€™s faithfulness is not a one-way street. It calls for a response โ€” not out of fear, but out of love.

๐Ÿ”Ž 1. Joshua 21:43โ€“45 โ€“ Everything Was Fulfilled

This passage is the theological heart of the book of Joshua:
โ€œNot one word failed of all the good things that the LORD had promised to the house of Israel. All came to pass.โ€

Commentary:

  • Godโ€™s promises are reliable โ€” they sustain past, present, and future.

  • This โ€œall came to passโ€ is a divine fingerprint on Israelโ€™s history โ€” and on our life of faith.

  • This is our hope as well: If God was faithful then, he will be faithful in your life too.

๐Ÿ”Ž 2. Joshua 23 โ€“ A Call to Watchfulness

Joshua, now old, speaks to Israelโ€™s leaders. He reminds them of two things:

  • Godโ€™s faithfulness โ€” victory, land, and rest came from God.

  • Israelโ€™s responsibility โ€” continued faithfulness, clear boundaries, spiritual alertness.

Especially in verse 11 he says:

โ€œSo be very careful, for your life, to love the LORD your God.โ€

Commentary:

  • Love for God is the center of the covenant โ€” not blind rule-keeping.

  • Obedience flows from relationship, not from coercion.

  • Joshua knows human weakness โ€” therefore he calls for a conscious decision.

๐Ÿ”Ž 3. The Wrath of God โ€“ Joshua 23:15โ€“16

The covenant also includes warnings. Joshua says:

โ€œJust as the blessing came true, so judgment will come if you turn away.โ€

Commentary:

  • Godโ€™s wrath is not a mood, but an expression of his holiness and justice.

  • His faithfulness also means that he remains true to his standards โ€” for blessing and for judgment.

  • Yet God offers grace โ€” in Christ, who bore the wrath (Romans 5:9).

โœจ Spiritual Principles

  • Godโ€™s word is trustworthy โ€” every promise is fulfilled.

  • Faithfulness is not a one-time decision, but daily perseverance.

  • True love is shown in obedience โ€” not in feelings.

  • Spiritual vigilance protects against gradual drifting away.

  • Godโ€™s wrath shows how seriously he takes our relationship with him.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Application in Daily Life

  • Regularly read biblical promises and record how they have been fulfilled in your life.

  • Build spiritual rhythms to remain close to God each day (prayer, Bible study, Sabbath).

  • Make clear decisions against influences that weaken your faith.

  • Act not out of fear of Godโ€™s wrath, but out of gratitude for his grace.

  • Renew your love for God โ€” as a conscious decision, not just an emotion.

โœ… Conclusion

God is faithful. This is more than a biblical statement โ€” it is a foundation for life. Everything he says, he keeps. Everything he begins, he brings to completion. The question is not whether God remains faithful โ€” but whether we hold fast to him. And even when we fail: He remains faithful (2 Timothy 2:13).

โ€œOur faithfulness may waver โ€” Godโ€™s faithfulness remains.โ€

โ€œThe Oath Under the Treeโ€

Chapter 1 โ€“ The Reflection

Rachel, 42, lives with her husband and two children in a small town in New Zealand. She is an Adventist โ€” raised with faith, but inwardly burned out. Her marriage is distant, her faith a memory.

Chapter 2 โ€“ The Conference

A church conference takes place. The speaker speaks about Joshua 23:

โ€œSo be very careful โ€ฆ to love the LORD your God.โ€

Rachel takes notes without looking up. But something strikes her โ€” not the appeal, but the question:

โ€œDo you still love God โ€” or do you only love the idea of him?โ€

Chapter 3 โ€“ The Decision

After the conference, Rachel goes for a walk alone. Beneath an old tree she kneels down. There, in silence, she speaks aloud:

โ€œLord, I donโ€™t want to forget you anymore. I donโ€™t just want to honor you โ€” I want to love you.โ€

It is not a feeling. It is a decision.

Chapter 4 โ€“ The New Foundation

Rachel begins to pray regularly again, together with her husband. Her family notices the change. Her children see a mother who lives with God โ€” not out of duty, but out of joy.

Chapter 5 โ€“ The Oath Lives On

Ten years later. Rachel leads a small womenโ€™s group. Under the same tree, with new women, she reads Joshua 21:45:

โ€œNot one word failed โ€ฆ all came to pass.โ€

She says:

โ€œI failed. I doubted. But God โ€” he was faithful. And he still is.โ€

๐Ÿง  Final Reflections

Faithfulness is not perfection. It is a journey โ€” through doubts, through decisions, through returning.

The God who was faithful to Israel is faithful to you as well.
You only need to hold fast โ€” and he will bring it to completion.
