👑 The King Is Coming Soon – Hope Beyond the End

📅 January 14 – The Second Resurrection and the End of Evil

Monthly theme: The Blessed Hope – Living in Expectation
Theme for 2026: “Soon the King Is Coming – Hope Beyond the End”

📖 Central Bible Text for the Day

“Now the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power.”
Revelation 20:5–6

🌅 Devotional for the Day

The Bible speaks of two resurrections
not one general resurrection, but a twofold revelation of God’s justice.
The first resurrection is that of the righteous;
the second concerns the wicked, who awaken after the millennium.

Jesus Himself said:

“The hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.”
John 5:28–29

The first resurrection takes place at Christ’s return.
The second—one thousand years later—marks the end of the great conflict between good and evil.

The Judgment of the Wicked

After Christ’s return, the redeemed are in heaven (Revelation 20:4).
The earth is desolate, empty, devastated—an image of chaos after judgment.
Satan is “bound” because he can no longer deceive anyone.

But at the end of the thousand years something tremendous happens:

“When the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison.”
Revelation 20:7

The wicked are brought back to life—
not to receive a second chance,
but to see that God’s verdict is just.

Ellen G. White writes:

“The wicked will come forth from their graves to receive the fruits of their life’s work. They see the redeemed in the City of God, and in their hearts the old spirit of rebellion rises once more.”
(The Great Controversy, p. 662)

Here the great controversy reaches its climax.
All creation sees that sin can no longer have any place.

🌿 The Just End of Sin

“And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.”
Revelation 20:9

The fire of destruction is not an eternal burning,
but a final extinguishing.
Sin, Satan, and death are destroyed forever.
In this way God cleanses the universe—
not through revenge, but through justice.

Ellen White wrote:

“Death and the grave are destroyed, sin and sinners are no more. The entire universe is clean. Peace and joy reign throughout the vast creation. From Him who created all, flow life and light and happiness to every world.”
(The Great Controversy, p. 678)

The “second death” is final.
There is no suffering without end—
but the end of suffering.
Evil is wiped out—and good remains forever.

🕊️ God’s Justice Revealed

“For true and righteous are Your judgments, O King of the nations!”
Revelation 15:3

Before God’s throne, all will confess
that His ways are right and His decisions perfect.
Even the lost recognize
that their destruction was the result of their own choice.

Ellen G. White describes this moment:

“Before the universe the wicked bow down and acknowledge the justice of God. They confess the righteousness of His law and His judgment. Every voice testifies: ‘Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints.’”
(The Great Controversy, p. 670)

What a picture:
even rebellion ends in an act of truth.
God’s name is vindicated,
and His kingdom stands firm—eternal and unshakable.

🙏 Prayer

Righteous God,
thank You that You are not only a God of love,
but also of perfect justice.

We do not understand everything,
but we trust Your wisdom and goodness.

Cleanse our hearts already today from all evil,
so that we may have a share in the first resurrection.

Help us to await Your kingdom with joy and reverence,
knowing that You make all things new and that Your will is perfect.

Amen.

💭 Thought for the Day

“The end of sin will be the greatest testimony to God’s love and justice. No heart will doubt, no being will question—everyone will confess: ‘God is love.’”
Ellen G. White, The Great Controversy, p. 678

💡 Personal Application

  1. Read Revelation 20 completely.
Mark how God’s judgment shows both justice and mercy.

  2. Pray: “Lord, hold on to me so that I will be part of the first resurrection.”

  3. Think today:
“I want to show with my life
that God’s ways are just and loving.”

🌺 Closing Verse
